NFL 2018 Week #1

Predictable start for the Pats. Does Brady age or is he some kind of android? Their defense looks stronger than last year. Could spell trouble. Texans had their moments, though!

So how many people turned off the Packer game at the half? I almost did, but my wife was asleep, and there was nothing else on TV. Good thing.

Aaron. Frickin. Rodgers. That's going to go down as one of the better Packers/Bears rivalry games. And now I can say I've been to 2 top Packers/Bears game. I told my friend who went with me to the game midway through the 3rd when it was 0-20 that Pack has to score on every possession here on out. They did.

Good weekend all around for Wisconsin sports. Badgers, Brewers, Packers win!

It was a fun game. Mack showed why he is the highest paid and Rodgers did the same. I like Trubiski, but he isn't quite there yet. All he needed was a field goal and even got help from Mathews who will/should get fined for that (if they review it) because he clotheslined (sic) the QBs head well after he threw the ball. Dumb play from a player who knows better. Trubiski couldn't steel himself for the pressure of winning that game. The Bears are close, but need a bit more time in the fire.


My personal quick hits of the games I was interested in:

I guess Garopolo should go ahead and post pone that gold jacket ceremony . . .

Of course Mariota he was hurt. Why wouldn't he be? It's the regular season now. . . I'm more worried about Lewan and his concussed status.

Eli rained all over the OBJ - Ramsey parade. It was canceled before it started. If he started the game with leopard print boxers on, when he dressed down after the game they would be tighty whities. That's how vanilla Eli is. He is the Debbie Downer of QB's.

I guess the Texans will be 15 and 1 instead of perfect behind Mighty Watson and his Mega-Watt Minions. . . In the things that make you go Hmm department - Deshaun Watson " My energy was low." Da hell? This is the first game of the NFL season. If it was low for this one I can't wait to see him crawl to the line during week 7.

Who's more worried about their choices in the off season, Mark Davis or Lev Bell? That's a trick question, Lev Bell isn't worried at all. He never intended to come back before week 10 and he certainly doesn't think he'll be a Steeler judging by the way his team mates were SURE he'd be there before the week ended.. positive. And then he wasn't and they uncharacteristically went public with it. CLEARLY he told them he would be there. He lied. They reacted. I don't have a problem with it.

Nice running Adrian. For an old man . . . :)

I think Dalton has a point. The Bengals have no Luck, what do you expect? See what I did there?

The officials are going to be in conspiracy theory waters all season because there is no way they can make these calls look even across every game. The ambiguity factor is going to be through the roof. Especially the weight on the QB one. I expect a crap storm.

Yes they are. And the Steelers might as well be 0-1 after that awful offensive showing. But I've been saying for two years that with all the top draft picks the Browns have been racking up, a turnaround for the better is inevitable. Still, with 6 Steeler turnovers, the Browns SHOULD have snagged a W instead of a tie. But I really believe that better things are ahead for them...

I did. I was surprised, but definitely not shocked to see that the Pack had come all the way back. Hard to be shocked with Rodgers at the helm. I was more shocked that the Bears were UP 20-0.

I don’t know if the weather can be blamed, but Taylor needs to get better. That he was intercepted only once is either a miracle or the rain fell on the just as well as the unjust. I’m leaning more toward miracle though, because Rothlisberger/Brown couldn’t get it together under the same conditions.

And why was Gordon targeted only thrice?!?

Sister kissing, indeed.

I grew up in central Ohio, rooting for the Browns. It's one of those things, but you are right. The Mariners should be enough penance for one lifetime. I do the homer thing and root for the Seahawks, but I actually think the Browns have a better chance at doing well this season than the Seahawks do. The Carroll schtick has gotten stale, they still don't have an O-line, and the defense has been mostly turned over. Russell Wilson, Earl Thomas (assuming he sticks around all season), and Bobby Wagner can't do everything by themselves. Will Dissly is making everyone forget that other tight end who wore 88 and was supposed to catch all kinds of passes. So, that's a bright spot. He blocks, too, unlike Jimmy Graham. It's something, but the Seahawks have made a string of mediocre to poor drafts and the Browns have had so many high draft choices that they could screw it up and still get a decent team. So, there's the explanation. If it came down to the Seahawks playing the Browns in the Super Bowl, I would be rooting for the Seahawks.

Aaron Rodgers was amazing in that game. His left leg was mostly a prop to keep him from falling over...he couldn't rotate the knee, use it for a plant or really do anything other than stand (gently) on it. But his team knows that when he's in, they can win.

He and the receivers, especially Cobb, tore up the Bears. That was a memorable game!

I also like Trubisky - he looks to have all the pieces to become at least a really good QB, and maybe a great one. But he's not quite there yet.

I have mixed feelings on the Seahawks, especially playing the Broncos after all the grief they've gone through the last couple of years. It was hard not to root for the Broncos. I do think that if the Seahawks don't get the O-line playing better, Wilson is likely to be on the IR list before long. But I don't envy any QB playing Bradley Chubb and Von Wilson; they're going to turn most O-lines into swiss cheese this year. (I just happen to have the Broncos D on my fantasy team this year.)
