I loved football as a kid and was a die hard fan during the Kelly era. But I didn't watch or follow any football for the better part of the last 30 yrs, other than watching a few SBs along the way.
Now that the Bills have a good team again, I've been watching every Sunday because my wife is a big fan (she doesn't care for sports in general, but she knows enough about the game to flow it and she used to work for the Bills back in the late 90s) and she does the whole Bills lawn ornaments, wears bills gear on Sunday, yells and claps at the TV, etc. She actually gets mad at me because I sit there and pick on the play calling, analyze why they're not SB material, make comments about how Allen will be crippled at age 30 and generally don't show any emotion.
Point is, I'm watching the games again, but very objectively and not as a biased fan.
I mean, I'd like to see them do well, but I don't live and die by it.

If it's any consolation, I LIKE the Bills; and I was pulling for them. I'd love to see them win a Super Bowl. If for no other reason because of the frustration of those 4 SB losses and the frustration the fans have gone through.

I'm a Flyers fan, so I know a little bit about frustration. They haven't won a Cup since 1975. I'm also a Pittsburgh Pirates fan. And everybody knows how bad THEY'VE been over the past several decades. Even "my" Steelers are just a shadow of what they were in the '70s. So I feel your pain...

We were just at the office remembering the 2019 OU Iowa State game. It was Purdy vs Hurts. ISU went for two points right at the end that would have sent it into OT. OU intercepted a pass in the end zone to win by two.

So they get to do it again. That's an interesting backstory I wasn't aware of. This time Purdy has Kittle and McCaffrey. It might be a little different.

As much as I agree with you about the Buffalo comments--I'm waiting for the "practice squad" meme used against Miami at this point--you're gonna have to expect some discounting if the Bengals beat KC. Mahomes has a high ankle sprain, it's not even clear he'll be able to play. He definitely won't be able to play like he usually does.

I read in the newspaper that Mahomes' injury isn't as bad as what they thought. I'm not sure what that means. Will he have a busted wheel or one tire that's a little low.

The Vikings are the only other team to lose four. They didn't do it consecutively, but they did it as well. I would like to see them win one someday as well.

The Browns? Never say never, but they will never win a Super Bowl. Not in my lifetime. They are the Cubs of the NFL, only without the charm. It's painful to have these ancient tribal loyalties to them.

I feel your pain

Thanks, but I'm in a non committed relationship with football now. The crazy, emotional rollercoaster days of being a football fan were 30 yrs ago. I don't get excited when they win, or bummed out when they lose.
My wife, on the other hand, is still a tribal fan. Constantly hexing Brady and Mahomes. I'm sure Burrows made her **** list recently too.
Plus, the dog thinks she's nuts when the Bills games are on and always jumps on my lap to stay away and keep safe. So, I have to stay the calm, rational one for the dog.
I can quietly root for just about any team and there's usually a few teams I quietly root against, usually because they have a few loud mouths that trash talk better than they play, have a few dirty hitters, a player or 2 that are cocky and lack class, or all of the above.
It would be fun to see a team like the Browns have a great year and make the big game. I'd pull for 'em.
Quietly though. No screaming at the TV and diving high 5s for me.

The worst part is it seemed like the games got worse and worse. Norwood missing the game-winner with 4 seconds left. Next one was a 37-24 loss. After that, a 52-17 blowout. Then, in the fourth one, they were tied in the 3rd, only to go give up 17 unanswered. Heart breaking. One of the best teams ever. They made it to 4 in a row, something nobody else has ever done.

We don't watch any ball sports until they reach the win-or-go-home stage. Then we watch every game.

We have some rabid football fan friends we Super Bowl party with every year. Watching and listening to her yell at the TV is usually more entertaining than the game or the commercials. I'm no doctor but I think she is clinically depressed for a few days after the game if her chosen team doesn't win.

I enjoy games during the regular season, but more as excuses to relax in front of the TV than anything else. I have been known to take the occasional "football nap" during these times as well.

When the playoffs roll around, that's when it's a lot more fun. This year has been great since Voldemort made an early exit. I like and respect all the remaining teams well enough. Chiefs have won the SB most recently, so I'll probably not root for them, but they are a great team so I wont be too bummed if they win. Bring on the games!

I am tribal, bur don't turn on a television. My English wife does and asks me endless "what was that" questions. Fourth down is a mystery.

I never saw that until they showed it after the game. Once the second half started, I knew there was no chance of a come back, so I started doing stuff around the house, letting the dogs out, etc and stopped watching, so I missed a bunch.
I don't know what he was saying, I assumed from the body language that it was the usual complaining that he's always open, but not getting the ball. But I don't think he was ever "open" the whole game, so who knows.

I've been saying it all year: our linebackers and secondary make great plays half the time and are non existent the other half. Our D line is a monster some games and a non factor others. Our O line is a little above average most games and below average others. The running game barely exists and they have great receivers that are good for a big play every few games, but also can't get open or catch the ball half the time.
There's no consistency. No beast mode running back, no beast D line getting 4-5-6 sacks p/game, no monster O line like Philly, etc.
They rely on Allen to run around out of the pocket or to simply run the ball every other play when the team is having one of their mediocre days. If it weren't for him playing like he has the last 2 yrs, they wouldn't have won half the games they did.
Another thing that stinks about the NFL these days is the revolving door of coaches. Every time a good team gets put together and makes a run, it's a "built to win now" mentality and if you don't win a SB within a few yrs, all your coordinators are leaving for head coaching jobs and half your best players are leaving for more money or a chance to win a SB with a team that looks like they have a better shot.
I think the bills best shot was last year, with Daboll and the roster they had.
No telling which direction it will go because I'm more than sure we will be looking to replace some players and coaches that will leave.
And it's a matter of time before Allen gets seriously hurt and misses a season. And the other teams in the division are only getting better, so the Bills may have missed their window here.

It's sobering to think that their window is closing. Allen is still in his twenties. Elite QB's don't grow on trees. But that's the reality in the salary cap era. The Bills are going to have to pull a gigantic rabbit out of a small hat to stay competitive, let alone vie for a SB next year. The game plan has to improve from "Let's hope Allen does something awesome" to a more balanced attack. Running QB's make great highlights, but aren't viable long-term. RGIII proved that. Still, hope springs eternal. Sometimes that's all you have.

Yep, Kyler Murray is currently proving that to be true. He runs for over 100 yards every game. Unfortunately most of that is in the backfield, escaping from the pass rush that easily gets through our laughable O-line.

Sad. He proved at OU that he run a great ball control passing game. If the O-line could give him a little time he can tear up over-the-middle and sideline passes out to 20 yards or so.

Russell Wilson did a whole lot of running around in the backfield. The fact that Geno Smith runs around less and gets the ball out faster is probably why Geno had the success he had this year. You don't need the world's greatest o-line if you get the ball out fast. Wilson needed a better line for that reason. He would hold the ball forever.
