After being one of seven members from Michigan accused of violating rules in a draft of the NCAA's notice of allegations obtained by ESPN on Monday, Los Angeles coach Jim Harbaugh denied any wrongdoing, adding that "it's back to work" with the Chargers.

The buck stops . . . nowhere near ME seems to be an increasingly acceptable response by those in charge these days. Like Jake Blues . . . "it wasn't my fault!!!!!". Take the money and run, Jim, because you found out that it wasn't hard.

Not really relevant to the new rules, but I was watching a documentary about Terry Bradshaw a while back. Whether or not you were a Bradshaw or Steelers fan, you really have to respect a guy who won 4 Super Bowls in those days before the QB was so protected. The number of brutal hits he took after releasing his passes that were never penalized speaks volumes. The man was tough...

Heck yeah. He was freakshow great.

I'm in Nashville, with a complete rollover of the coaching staff for the Titans in the wake of Mike Vrabel's firing. They drafted and wore out the free agent market and hopefully will have a pretty good team this year. They spent millions upgrading their facilities, pay the staff and players a LOT, a LOT, a LOT of money, and in their cut of the network TV deal they'll recieve between 500 and 600 million USD, before they touch any other revenue streams. They're building a new 2.5 billion USD stadium for which they'll charge a minimum of 45K USD for each personal seat license.

I'm a fan, but the monopoly money they throw around is just unbelievable. A league fronted by 32 billionaires, run by a commissioner they appointed and pay a little over a million USD a WEEK is just past numbers I can wrap my gray head around.

They let terrible things slip through to be sure, but with that kind of money, it's WAY easy to make just about anything go away. . . . except the concussion issue is the canary in the coal mine for me, as well as their iffy lip service to racial equality vs. what they actually do.

I'm going to check out the Seattle game this weekend. It'll be neat to see a change at the top and how the established players react while the new players adjust to the NFL.
Sure beats what's going on in Pittsburgh, same old crap year in and year out. Nothing exciting there.

Gotta love NFL Network. Unless the exhibition preseason game in question is "local" then NFL Network is only way to watch them. That's fine, no skin off my nose, but a little surprising when I tuned in last night to see the "second" game (Giants/Lions) which had been played the same time as the "first" game (Pats/Panthers) but delayed for broadcast and just as they are lining up for kickoff the chiron is displaying the final score! It's not like I cared about the score or even the game, it was just background, but seems awfully weird to be telling your (potential) viewers the end of the story before the first chapter's even started. Guess that's why I'll never be a high powered sports/TV exec (among, no doubt, many other reasons).

Then your best players' performance will fall off a cliff and he'll say "this isn't fantasy football".

His offense did nothing. Fields had a few nice escapes/runs, but all-in-all, the Steelers looked very middle-of-the-pack. But hey, "The Standard is the standard!!".

Chicago might actually have a decent team for a change. And a modern offense. Nah, not possible. They need to revert to Bobby Douglass offense to be the Bears.

Tomlin hires coaches who will (1) keep their mouth shut, (2) do what he says, (3) are just happy to have an NFL job, and (4) are no threat to him as the head coach. Basically sock puppets.
They don't have to be good at what they are hired for, they just have to meet the above criteria.

I'm always a Dolphins fan first, but since I lived in Chicago for a long time I do root for the Bears to be at least competitive. I'm cautiously optimistic thus far, though I don't expect Williams to be a star in his rookie year. Hopefully they can be better than when Douglass was there--he was 13-31 as the Chicago starter! I think if I were running the Steelers, I'd be calling the Broncos to find out how I could get Zach Wilson. He's starting to show promise with Sean Payton as a coach, and the Steelers have bupkus.

I watched part of the Steelers game and it looked like a Stooges short comedy. Neither Russ nor Justin Fields look like they can run an offense. Fields might be a decent backup if you can live with him only as a running QB. Wilson is done, except maybe as a backup.

It did my heart good to watch River Cracraft catch a TD for the Dolphins a week ago - no one has worked harder to stay in the NFL. He's a great Coug.

And how 'bout Minshew??!! He's about to create Minshew Mania in Lost Wages. I bet he takes command and surprises a lot of people as the starter for the Raiders. Go, Cougs!!
