Eberflus has certainly shown a flair for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

There are a lot of things a head coach can (and should) pay someone else to think about. Clock management is not one of them. You can’t be that bad at it after almost 3 years.

More to the point, though, the entire team plays sloppy. If one guy gets a bunch of penalties, that’s on him. If a bunch of guys get too many penalties, it’s probably coaching. If it’s across all three phases, it’s time for a new head coach.

I have no sympathy for Bears fans, as a Lions fan who has watched Marty Morningway and Matt Patricia, I hope Eberflus has a long coaching career with a rival. The Lions are finding ways to win. With 9 defensive starters out, I'll take it.

My least favorite sports franchise of all time is the Falcons. Not sure if I mentioned that.
Since I was a first grade kid in Atlanta, Pop Warner at Murphy Chandler park they have just relentlessly let me down.
Just gave away a 2 game lead in the division today.

My oh my, Pittsburgh has a situation with Pickens. That kid is out of control, and the longer this goes on without any response from Tomlin, the worse it's going to get. Saying he needs to grow up of obvious, now do something to help him.
I grossly overestimated the Bengals. They gave that game away, multiple times.
Way to go Seattle. 300 pound Leonard Williams bumblin and stumblin for a pick six was rad! What the thunder was he doing dropping back in coverage though, that was cool. Nice call McDonald.

Nice win today for the Eagles over Lamar and King Henry. Was excited to see what our defense could do against a top rushing attack and a wildcard at QB and they did not disappoint. Even with a few injuries they held down the fort. Should have been 24-12 but il take it.

This supposed “1st quarter exploratory play calling” stuff is maddening but seeing the offense turn it on in the 2nd quarter and forward just about makes up for it.

Watching Saquon run behind this o-line is a blast. Here’s hoping they can keep things rolling and snag that #1 seed from Detroit. Pulling for the Packers next week.

Yep. The Bengals’ D is just that bad. They even made Najee Harris look like Barry Sanders in the first quarter. That takes some doing.

And Pickens. What can you say? The kid needs to grow up and stop hurting his team. But it’s like a lot of things these days: attitude sells. It’s what people pay to see. They want to see preening, posing, dancing in the end zone, unsportsmanlike trolling, flexing, etc. It’s like the difference between actual wrestling (which is a beautiful art, but no one fills an arena to watch) and the super hype-y fake stuff that people turn out in droves for.

The NFL, which started as the former, is turning into the latter, because it’s what people want. Which leaves me increasingly on the outside. I still tune in sometimes to see the sheer athleticism and teamwork that occasionally shines through all the flashing lights and posing, but the noise to signal ratio is getting pretty off-putting.

Well said on every count. I've always hated pre-planned, acted-out end zone celebrations. It's fine to be excited about scoring. But those reunion-style gatherings and skits just turn my stomach. Lombardi has to be spinning in his grave.

I guess Ryan Poles agreed with us. Eberflus is gone. More interestingly, Thomas Brown is being promoted to interim head coach, just a few weeks after being promoted to offensive coordinator. I suspect that’s the real reason for the timing. In an ideal world, your head coach is the guy developing your young QB. That way you don’t have him leaving for another team after 1 or 2 good seasons.

It looks to me like the rest of the season is about deciding whether Brown deserves a shot at the permanent job.

If Caleb Williams does well, he will probably pass the audition. Just a guess. It seems like he and Williams are getting things sorted out.

The Seahawk game was a microcosm of this season so far. The screw it up a brazillion different ways and somehow get away with it. They almost screwed up the whole season, then made a bunch of changes on defense that seem to be working well. Now if they could just find a running game under the couch cushions somewhere, it would be even better.

I love seeing linemen score. When it's a 92 yard rumble, it's even better. Leonard Williams sure is fast, never mind how big he is. He sure had an escort, too. It looked like the entire Seahawks defense was running right along with him. They celebrated and he flopped over exhausted from the long sprint. Pretty great stuff.

I hope the Browns get a high pick, but not the first pick. They have a habit of screwing it up when they have the first pick, either by picking the wrong person or by giving up on that person too soon. But gosh, they are the Browns.

An NFL thread for this year with nary a comment about the BEST team in the league. The Detroit Lions are destroying teams and point spreads, even with the loss of Aiden Hutchinson arguably contender for defensive player of the year when he went down. It's simple they have the best offensive line in football and the wear the other guys down. The Lions have a +177 point differential, the next closest is the Bills with +106.

It wouldn't be a stretch to see the Bills and Lions in the Superbowl.
