Not only were the Chiefs' hearts not in it, most of their players weren't in it, either. The same happened in LA when the Rams played the Seahawks, and the Seahawks still struggled to beat the Rams. That tells you plenty about the current state of the Seahawks.

You really want to drive a stake through the hearts of any remaining and suffering Browns fans. Not that Browns fans won't continue to suffer no matter what.

The sportscasters and writers around here have attributed it to a couple things for the most part.
Besides not being good with the media, it's been said he wasn't the leader he was expected to be. That showed through in how the players conducted themselves with the media as well, blaming fans and others for issues.
Pile that in with him being hand picked by Belichick and the team not really improving as the season went along, off he went. I think about any coach following Belichick was facing a tall task to compete at that level, especially with a depleted roster. The next guy they hire is going to face the same challenges.
I'm with you, I think Mayo will pop up again a better coach after this experience in Foxboro. Although I wonder if he's trying to be like Tomlin and be a buddy to his players. That's not going to work in the NFL.

Well, the Seahawks are out, but the Packers and Broncos are in. So now I have one AFC and one NFC team to follow in the playoffs. I don't expect either one to go deep into the playoffs, but it's good to see them there. I enjoyed seeing the Bears at Lambeau field in 17 degrees that last game. That's classic NFC Black & Blue football. Glad I wasn't in the stands, though. Too cold for me.

I realize that the Chiefs put their C team on the field for the last game, but the Broncos made them look worse than I expected. If nothing else, the Broncos proved that they have their QB for the next decade (barring injuries.) If he follows the rule that rookies make a big jump from year one to year two, Nix will be a "must watch" guy next year.

He got a little animated. It looked like things were a little animated at the time, though. He got fired because he wasn't winning and maybe other things, though. I think that was just the last straw. He was originally part of Peterson's staff, and my take is that Peterson wasn't shady. So maybe Lake is OK as a human. I really don't know.

I expected Peterson to resurface as a head coach somewhere else when he resigned and retired. That's what usually happens after a "retirement" at a fairly young age. The coach that "retires" turns up somewhere else with a bigger paycheck. With Peterson, that hasn't happened. It seems like he really is what he says he is unless I'm missing something.

Minshew had a season-ending injury, and he's been no factor for the last month or two. I'd love for him to get a job with a decent team - I know he gave it all for the Raiders, but the team sucks overall. No better than the Jags were when he inherited the starting job there.

My guess is that he'll end up a career backup, one of those guys who make a lot of $ but don't play much - which is not the worst that could come of a career in the NFL. I hesitate to think he'll get another shot at a starting job.

Well said on Lake.
He went up the ladder quite quickly, which may have contributed to where he is today, unemployed. Maybe he can give it a go at the college level again.

Hi, NFL thread

I don't follow, and have NOT even read 1 post. Flame away, I guess; just here for NFL stat guys.

Let's pretend Denver lost...
Miami DID lose, so the Bengals got a seed.

Umm... how often does a division send 3 of 4 teams to post-season?

Is the AFC North consistently a "hard" division; or does this sort of circumstance present itself often?

Let's be honest, KC played 2nd and 3rd depth players. They "threw away" that game.

It appears that until I started this post I hadn't realized I actually have 2 queries... the first I've already asked.... if the AFC north particularly challenging?

The second..... is it possible KC decided Denver was a better option as a playoff contender than Cincy?

TBH I like to see my local boys do well, but I'm not "necessarily " a fan. I like the game (played in JHS and HS) but don't generally care who wins/ loses/ makes the bowl.

Just really curious how often a division sends 3 teams to post season. Is it every season?
