Pickens going to Dallas...

There’s nothing Jerry loves more than attention, including championships obviously. He’s like those people who pretend to have cancer for sympathy, except that Pickens is an actual cancer he’s inflicting on the team.

I see the Steelers traded Minkah Fitzpatrick, which is a good thing since he stopped playing once he got paid. They picked up Jalen Ramsey, who was good about 10 years ago. All I can assume at this point is Tomlin called and asked Patrick Peterson to come back. When he said no, Tomlin told Khan to make the Ramsey deal since they were missing someone for the 'I was a good DB 10 years ago' position.

Khan gets rewarded for that bad deal, Steelers sign GM Khan to new 3-year contract.
Then we learn Rooney is delusional. From the article:
"Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field," Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement Thursday.
Great job? Umm, nope. A job? Yes. I do love the 'strategic trades' comment. Makes me laugh. :D

The plan is a game over .500. What's not to like?
Then why get rid of Fitzpatrick? He only disappears when it really matters. That sounds like a game over .500 kinda guy to me.

Seriously, though, this looks like so many years I watched Chicago do the same thing. Every year you rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Except every year the chairs get a little older, and a little more worn down. Meanwhile, fewer and fewer top free agents want to sign, so you’re constantly filling out your starting lineup with guys on 1 year prove it deals. Most of those guys don’t return to form, making them likely long term starters for your team on the decline. By the end, you’re paying prime salaries to a bunch of 30 something guys who were “mysteriously” cut from other teams, who are hoping in vain to beat Father Time.

It’s not too late for the Steelers to break out of their death spiral, but the problems appear to go all the way to the top. You can’t fire the owner, which means the fans are stuck waiting until Art Rooney gets fed up enough to fire everyone else.

And then the hard part begins. Which is why the Bears have been stuck there for the last three years.

The Bears seem like they might have a chance to be more or less decent for a change. Not mid-1980s level good, but at least mostly competitive. Well, OK, .500. Did they hire Tomlin? It seems like the Seahawks are on that path as well. It's a contagious epidemic. But, we can always rely on the Browns to suck. So there's that. I always root for the Browns for a short time, then give up in despair and go back to being a Seahawks fan. At least the agony lasts a bit longer before futility sets in. And then there's the Mariners. I'm pretty good at disappointment.

I’m cautiously optimistic. The thing about Ben Johnson is nobody knows what kind of head coach he will be. Being a great coordinator doesn’t predict your ability to manage an entire team. It also doesn’t guarantee you will continue to be successful on your side of the ball, once you add in your extra responsibilities.

I like the Dennis Allen hire, but I have no idea how well Chicago’s current defensive roster will fit his system. I like the major O-line overhaul, but until they prove otherwise, it’s still suspect.

Even if they really did make all the right moves this offseason, it’s an uphill climb in a tough division. On the good side, good divisions make tougher teams.
