NFL Week 20

... i just didn't see enough bears domination against the seahawks last week to feel that they have a huge edge over the saints offense. big plays at big moments? yeah, a couple....

That's the thing.....you don't have to dominate to win. Making big plays when needed is what matters. A dominant defense is great to have, but a good defense that makes plays when it matters most is just as good.

The Bears are no longer dominant, but they do make the plays on D when it matters.

and i say as long as you let brees hang in there, you're increasing your chance to be upset on your homefield... that's just the way i see it. if the bears don't deliver the knockout punch by the third quarter, i don't think they'll win. i totally see where you're coming from and it makes good football sense, but very little about this year makes good football sense :D

As far as the AFC game, this is a game where a lot of intangibles come in to play. The Colts D is fired up lately, desperately working to improve against the run and succeeding. Manning and Brady are both great field marshalls, but Brady and Belicheck have the mojo going for them. Manning is given a chance to shrug off his playoff monkey at home. Patriots are doing it on D with a handful of talent among no-names.

If the Colts D plays the way they have been the last two games, I think they can take this one. The lack of rapport between Brady and his receivers have made him more turnover prone than past seasons. Colts are pretty decent against the pass and they have improved immensely against the run lately. Dillon and Maroney are solid, as well as the line they run behind, but neither are really home-run hitters.

It will also be a game where you'll see who has been studying more - Manning or Belicheck. Manning has historically had a tough time against NE, but he has improved. If he can get into a groove, and call great plays at the line of scrimmage, it will be hard for NE to cover all the weapons they have.

If IND can force NE to pass more, they would be playing into their strength by letting the ends tee off, and possibly get turnovers. Hot reads, screens, and route adjustments - ways team defend against the blitz are harder for receivers to run unless they build a strong rapport with the QB.

But Belichek is a genius and Brady is as cool as they come, so there's no reason they can't take this one. It'll be a good game, and I'll definitely be checking this one out.

....it's spelled "adieu".

;)

Dude, win close ones? No sweat, twice against the Eagles, who have a VASTLY superior offense to that of the Bears.

Saints:

#3 pass defense (and other than TWO plays last Saturday, the Saint defense SHUT DOWN the #2 offense in the NFL)
#1 offense

And the only folks sayin' "adieu" on Sunday will be the Saints on the way to Miami.

:)

Dude, you need to check your stats

Chargers #1 offense
Bears #2
Saints # 5

Offense is more than passing yards. And the VASTLY superior offense that the Eagles have ( had) was #6

Offense is also more than numbers. Despite the Eagles' statistical rankings for the regular season, Garcia was playing excellent football down the stretch and Westbrook was also playing at an extremely high level. Rex and company have not looked so impressive lately, regardless of the gaudy numbers they put up early in the season.

I'm not saying that the Saints are going to blow the Bears off of the field, but sometimes stats get misconstrued in sports, particularly football.

+1 Garcia did a nice job in Philly. I understand totally how stats really mean very little on the outcome of a game. The reason I brought it up is because of hearing about the Saints #1 offense all the time, which it's not.I believe it's going to be a heck of a game.If my Bears lose I'll tip my hat to the Saints. At least the Packers and Cowboys are sittin' home watching.:)

Fair enough. I'm anticipating a close one as well. It'll be tough to top the drama of last week's games, though.

I'm with you there!

:hyper:

If the Cowpatties had made it, I would have been sick...much better to be the Bears.

(Too bad it won't be! :D )

Well Gard, I guess the Cowboys can take one for the team. I mean, the Saints have won 2 playoff games, and the Cowboys have won 5 Super Bowls, have 8 NFC Championships, (plus 2 NFL Eastern Conference Championships), and have played in 14 NFC Championship games, and have 19 Division Championships (in a tough division). That ain't half bad. So, if the Saints, who just won their 2nd playoff game ever, get their turn, that ain't the worst thing in the world. And besides, at least the Cowboys are now set up to compete. :D

Oh, I'm not saying they're not filled with the history of playing great football! Matter of fact, that's probably WHY I dislike them so much. ;)

That and the whole early 90's Michael Irvin drug-addled punk team (with the exception of Emmitt Smith, who I've always admired as a player AND person). Couldn't stomach that team for any reason.

I think it's a family thing for me, the first time I EVER heard my mother curse was watching a football game back in the '70's and someone referred to the Cowboys as "America's Team". Her response, under her breath:

"F*** you, I'll pick my own team."

Mom (RIP) really didn't like the Cowboys.

:)

Yeah, that's what I say now about all the reporters, (like the sentimental and idiotic Peter King), calling the Saints "America's Team" now. ;)

I'm right there with you, I don't WANT the Saints to be "America's Team", they're OUR team....y'know the ones that actually sat in the rain in Tulane Stadium to watch games...the ones that went to all the home games, no matter how awful they were...the ones that cursed the "fans" with bags on their heads...*

...they're OUR team, not anyone else's.

(*I did every one of those things growing up, so I EARNED being a "real" Saints fan.)
