NFL week 5

Broncos > 'Skins

I'm a Skins fan, but like most of us, we're realistic about our 3-0 start: except for maybe the Seahawks, we haven't beaten a good team yet. OTOH, that doesn't mean we are "lucky", as one of my coworkers said. He's a Cowboys fan: one of the many Cowboys fans 'round here who couldn't find Texas on a map of the U.S. And of course most non-Texan Cowboys fans are sore losers (and poor winners, but they won't often get to be that way this year).

Anyway: fact is, the 'Skins once again have a truly great D that should keep us competitive nearly every game, and once Brunell gets his timing down with the receivers the O will score more points. But: we're traveling out to Denver, a good team with a ridiculous home field advantage. I have a gig this Sunday afternoon, and have a feeling I won't miss a big Skins victory.

...if you really believe that 1) the Yucks are as good as their record, and 2) the Saints are really as bad as their record, well...you are just going to deserve the 7-9 season that will be a gift to the Bucs this year. The Saints will continue to OWN the Yucks yet again, and I don't see the Yucks splitting with either of the other NFC Southies, so don't count on a .500 record in their division. I'd say there is a strong chance that you'll see a Yucks team that is WINLESS in their own division.

Oh, and PLEASE keep thinking that the Saints deserve a "pass" because of Katrina and the disarray it caused. Please. Because that means you're overlooking a very talented football team that WILL play well down the stretch.

Back to the Dolphins, I am really looking forward to seeing Ricky "Toke" Williams shred that run defense you're so proud of! :D

Enjoy the soft-pitch start, which will probably end after this coming weekend against the hapless J E T S Jets Jets Jets.....because after that, well...

Of course we're as good as our record; wouldn't have it, otherwise. It's simple, really. 4-0 teams deserve to be....4-0.

I, for one, subscribe to the "any given sunday" school of thought. Playing "weak" teams doesn't guarantee wins, else they wouldn't bother playing the games.

The Lions rush defense isn't bad, top of the middle of the pack, they're giving up around 100 yards a game. What's more important is that Caddy got hurt, came out, and then our second string rb got around 150 yards from scrimmage. Would you rather stop the run, or stop the running back? The lions failed to do one of the two....

The "pass" for Saints means that, should they fall short, i'm willing to say that they've had to overcome obstacles that other teams have not, and that these obstacles have an effect upon the game, like not living/practicing/playing at home all year. And, if they win out, or make the playoffs, i'm willing to grant them a measure of respect that surpasses what they would earn in other seasons. If you fail to admit that they are experiencing undue stress from the Katrina disaster, than you also lose the right to say that they triumphed over unusual adversity should they have a great season. Are they just another football team, or are they under greater pressure than the rest? If they fail, do we take those other events into consideration? If they suceed, are they all the greater for overcoming such obstacles? I'm willing to say yes.

Caddy's been a champ so far, runs super hard, has amazing balance, and is just so humble and positive. And, he's already in the HOF :) I can't wait to see him up against a "real" defense, too. Maybe the dolphins? Frankly, carnell williams isn't a worry against good teams, brian griese is.

The refs ruled it invalid after reviewing it. I reckon they know a thing or two about football, looked at it from every angle, consulted ms. cleo, and came to the rational conslusion: not a td. If we're going to second guess calls we don't like, than the bucs should have been in the super bowl a few years prior to their last appearance.

I'm a realist, and not a homer, and as such, i'll grant that the saints might win one of our two match-ups, based solely on history, and not on a statistical analysis. I think this year we pound on the falcons, as we're #1 against the run, and i don't think anyone harbors great respect for Vick as a pocket-passer. Stuff the run = stuff the Falcons offense. And, while the panthers won last night, they have to play 60 minutes of football. Defense slipped late game.

It's a rare day that instant replay reviews the plays i don't like, i think its usually the coaches, or an official in the booth ;)

I'm in favor of instant replay, and like the current system: its use by the coaches is restricted to avoid abuse, and not that many reviews come from the booth.

Hurt Emanuel caught that damn ball.

As my local cohorts have correctly pointed out - Saints victory depends on which team shows up.

Having been a fan for years leads me to the following prediction of the game vs the Pack . . .

Pack is 0-4 w/ Farve as QB (and in Lambeau) + Saints coming off "home" win = blowout by the Pack w/ TV announcers constantly saying "It's great to see the old Brett Farve back again", etc.

(But hope the Saints put it on them and get that running game on track)

Actually, the Pack has SERIOUS trouble in the secondary this week, lots of guys on the bench. Translation: If AB is even relatively close to his "game", it could get ugly, especially if Joe Horn is back on the field - no way the Pack can stop the Saints passing game if it's hitting on all cylinders. That would also translate into the Saints running game getting untracked as well...one opens the other every time.

Bret FAR-VUH still has some talent, but as has been pointed out is surrounded by a 2nd rate team now, and Ahman Green is out....long day for Mr. I-Can't-Say-My-Name-Right....

The last time was the '95 season unfortunately. That was the year Tony Siragusa led the last respectable D in Indy. Man, I still miss the Goose.

I'm definately excited about our current D. The Colts are winning games by stopping the other team instead of Peyton and the O having to outgun them. I like a 14-3 win because of a good D over a 38-35 win where the D was just steamrolled over.

Speaking of instant replay... '95 was the year the Colts should have gone to the Superbowl and I'm still sore about it! :mad: Instant replay would have taken care of that.

games I want to comment on.

Atlanta and the Pats... seriously I like how Atlanta is looking HOWEVER something tells me NE's defence is going to be all over vicks. I don't see him getting the room to run alot... expect IMHO to see alot of hurried throws.

GB and NO... who has the worst defence again? I think if Favre plays (I hadn't heard anything if he they are going to pull him and give a young guy a chance... maybe rumours) I'll go GB.

Washington and the Broncs... I see Denvers luck running out (however I did bet for them)

Steelers and SD... regardless, it is going to be a good game, likely one I am going to try and watch (with the sickness, it is hard staying up late, not today though... go 2:30am)

BTW, so far this year (not betting on the first week, didn't get my ticket) I am at 78% win. Don't think I am doing too bad. NE keeps messing me up. Can't those guys win. (pssst. I hope not. I dislike them)

...I think you'd better go check the Packer's injury list...they're short two starters in their secondary...not gonna be pretty against Brooks, Horn, & Stallworth...
