OK, bringing my 53-25 record forward...

Houston @ Cincinnati: Houston will yet again find a way to lose, despite their best efforts and intentions. Cincy will give them a good deal of assistance at home - Houston 20 Cincinnati 27

Detroit @ Green Bay: Detroit is better than most think, but not better than Green Bay at Lambeau - Detroit 17 Green Bay 27

St. Louis @ Jacksonville: Meh. Jax, but only because St. Louis is working so hard on a perfect season and potentially the first pick of the 2010 draft (in a difficult fight with Tampa Bay) - St. Louis 9 Jax 10, crowd in the stadium under 20K as we continue the "where will we play next year?" watch

Baltimore @ Minnesota: Interesting game. Minnesota hasn't faced a big-time, high pressure defense, which is what the Ratbirds will bring to the HHH Metrodome. FAR-VUH isn't due for his meltdown yet, but he is 40 and not as mobile as he once was. Flacco had a bad week, won't have another one, despite the very good defense in Minnesota - Baltimore 24 Minnesota 21

Cleveland @ Pittsburgh: Next - Brownies 3 Steelers 23

Carolina @ Tampa Bay: Tampa continues their march to perfection, Carolina continues to give false hope to their fans - Carolina 24 Tampa 10

Kansas City @ Washington: Zorn-watch, day 38. One day closer to unemployment for Mr. Z - KC 17 Skinned 10

Philadelphia @ Oakland: I wish I could say it would be close. I can't say that though. In a "phone it in" loss - Philly 34 Oakland 6

Arizona @ Seattle: Schizophrenia Bowl. Seattle seems to have an affinity for beating up bad football teams. Arizona is not a "bad" football team, even though they're not a "great" one - Arizona 27 Seattle 17

Tennessee @ New England: Billy & Tommy are going to be in a bad mood, and they don't like company when they're in a bad mood. Very bad hosts. Tennessee is lost, just stumbling around aimlessly - Tennessee 12 NE 24

Buffalo @ NY Jets: The wheels are off in Buffalo. The J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS have dropped 2 in a row, but they're not going to go 0-3 here - Buffalo 6 NY Jets 23

Chicago @ Atlanta: Neither of these teams are impressing me, even though they're winning. I think Atlanta is more of a paper tiger than Chicago is though, especially defensively - Chicago 24 Atlanta 21

Denver @ San Diego: Denver looks for real, Sandy Eggo looks moderately better than Tennessee. Not a good matchup for LT & Mr. Rivers - Denver 24 Sandy Eggo 20

...I'm attacking the big game in its own post...too much to go over in this one!

...potentially of the SEASON, could have some implications for playoff homefield advantage, even this early in the season (and it could all be smoke and mirrors - only time will tell! :hyper: )

I could anal-ize over all kinds of stats, strength of schedule issues, who's hurt and out, who's back and healthy, blah, blah, blah, blah....

...this is a gut-check game, two teams that have stepped over the strewn bodies of everyone that has come before them.

Here are the three things I will say count:

1) New Orleans has BURIED every opponent, good or bad, by no less than 14 points, and one of those opponents was 3-0 coming into the game; the NY Giants have edged out two games against mediocre teams (Washington, Dallas) and buried three hopeless teams (Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Oakland).

2) Sean Payton takes great pride and joy in beating up on his former employers (see Dallas, see Philadelphia). He won't let up if the Saints get ahead until it is OBVIOUS that his team has put it on the opponent. Last time a Payton-coached Saints team played the Giants, they won 30-7.

3) Home in the Dome. The crowd will take the Giants out of their game, especially if the Saints get up on them. If you haven't been in the Dome during a game when they're up on someone, you can't even begin to understand it. Yes, Eli grew up there, yes, he's been there done that, but it won't help if the Saints get up on them. Sheer pandemonium will erupt.

My gut call on this one:

Giants 17 Saints 31

It'll be close into the 3rd quarter, but the Saints O will begin to wear down the Giants D after the half.

If I'm wrong, I will not be too upset, because I totally believe the Giants are a good team, and there is no shame in losing to a good team.

I'm not scared of this one though, I am confident.

No matter what happens, I think this will be one great game to watch, and I'm excited, I can't wait for 1 pm Sunday!!!!

I totally agree with this .... there is no shame in losing to the Saints, the hottest team in the NFL right now .... if the Giants are to lose, that is .... ;)

Let's face it, somebody is going to have a digit in the loss column after this weekend, barring any weirdo tie-game situation, and I wouldn't think it would reflect negatively on either team to have that loss. From the Giants perspective, I have no delusions that they will go undefeated, but I also believe that they will handily win the division and face these Saints for the conference. Regardless of which team wins Sunday, things could look dramatically different in both clubhouses by January considering the potential for injuries or, for example, some big mouth shooting himself in the leg and corrupting the flow of the team :rolleyes:. Anything can happen ...

All of that said, the Giants will have their hands full with the Saints. It is very true that NY hasn't been challanged at any point this season, also true that their last three opponents have a combined record of 1-14. To the Giants credit, they outscored these weak opponents 95-23 and out-yarded them 1309-403. So the Saints will be the first "real" team the Giants have faced this year.

As a lifelong Giants fan (my earliest memories are of rooting for the Giants with my Dad, and I'm 58 now .... that's a lot of years) I've come to understand what motivates them. Things like "haven't faced a good team yet", "first real challange", "nobody can stop Brees" get them motivated to play. NY likes to adopt the Rodney Dangerfield I-don't-get-no-respect attitude, and they use it to their advantage. Plus, former Giant big-mouth Shockey (still hasn't learned his lesson) thinks now is a good time to seriously trash-talk the Giants, not a smart move. He's a good player, but mark my words, he will become a significant distraction to the Saints before the season is out (assuming he doesn't get hurt AGAIN).

I'll be very interested in the Giants coverage against Brees, they should have a really busy day. Although the Saints can run, there aren't a lot of teams that beat up the D line .... if the Giants lose, it'll be through the air.

Honestly, too close to call, IMO. Can go either way and I'd be really surprised to see either team have a major collapse. Giants can take it to the wire, and at the end their loss colum will still be "0" ....:D

Ed, where have you seen Shockey making any noise at all? He's dead silent from what I'm seeing. As a matter of fact, the only person that has said ANYTHING was Boss, and that was just a friendly "tweet" to say hey to J Shock.

He's keeping his head down, and his mouth shut right now.

He knows if he starts making too much noise, Brees will be all over him, and he doesn't want Drew P!$$ed....

Edit: I saw an interview with him where he compares how he feels about the two organizations he has worked with, and he felt that the last year or so he was in NY, the team pretty much blew him off, and it really bugged him. He is happier in NOLA, otherwise, nothing obnoxious in the interview I read here:

He seems to genuinely be trying to just play the game and not be a lightning rod in NOLA so far.

For the sake of the Saints, I hope you're right. But having had to deal with Shockey, seeing things like this in the media is the start of the problems:

Granted, this particular article is from a NY paper so take it for what it is worth ;). Plus, Myers isn't my favorite guy. There are other articles, as I find them I'll post up or PM 'em to you.

Don't get me wrong, Shockey is a huge talent and everything will be good as long as he gets his hand on the ball. I'm guessing he hasn't started to flap off when the pass doesn't go his way, or is under/over thrown .... hope you're right, hope Brees can control him ....

Shockey has been pretty much keeping his nose clean, other than the incident in Las Vegas over the summer, since he got to NOLA.

If he keeps his mouth shut and just plays, I don't have any problem with him, and he is CERTAINLY not in the same category as the guys you listed by any stretch of the imagination!
