Hats off to the San Diego Chargers. Very gutsy football, perhaps one of the best efforts of the season even if it was a loss.

Going for it on 4th and 8 with 5 minutes and change on the clock? I dunno...

I have a deep respect for my favorite AFC West rival. Philip Rivers did everything except juggle chainsaws tonight. I still love his pouty little frowny face and the way he throws like a shot-putter. Good to see LT back in action, and that Sprolls, holy cow.

Denver still finding a way to control the second half and do what it takes to win. See you again in Denver on November 22. Breathe deep.

That was a great game, at least most of it. To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed with Denver's defense for most of the game, but they really turned it on in the late 3rd and 4th. It was also nice to see LT get some love again. I'll take a 70 yard game (plus 30 receiving) after a few weeks of not seeing much action.

Hats off to Denver though...unless you repeat last year, the AFC West is yours.

You're underestimating the Chargers' offensive effort. They were firing on all eight cylinders. I was truly concerned. If they keep up that kind of offense, they are playoff bound.

That was the offense I'm used to seeing from them With all the talk around Denver's D I expected a major offensive shutdown, which is basically what happened towards the end. I will say that even in the loss, I felt like the Chargers handled the running game much better than they had previously. Now if they could remember what a sack is.

Let me bask in the @$$whuppin' we've been layin' on the NFL so far...I'm aware it won't last for ever...however, I also remind myself of a certain team in pastel colors that did something interesting in 1972...it CAN happen again...I'm not sayin' it WILL, just it CAN...

...personally, I'm terrified of the game this week, Miami has all of the makings of a "trap" game...

St. Louis @ Jacksonville: Meh. Jax, but only because St. Louis is working so hard on a perfect season and potentially the first pick of the 2010 draft (in a difficult fight with Tampa Bay) - St. Louis 9 Jax 10, crowd in the stadium under 20K as we continue the "where will we play next year?" watch

Jax pretty much lived up...er, or more accurately, DOWN to my expectations, how do you let such a hopeless team take you to OT? +1

Baltimore @ Minnesota: Interesting game. Minnesota hasn't faced a big-time, high pressure defense, which is what the Ratbirds will bring to the HHH Metrodome. FAR-VUH isn't due for his meltdown yet, but he is 40 and not as mobile as he once was. Flacco had a bad week, won't have another one, despite the very good defense in Minnesota - Baltimore 24 Minnesota 21

FAR-VUH is apparently still Satan's Love Slave, and getting favors in return during football games. It can't last, and won't...but that's for the week 7 thread...-1

Philly...what was THAT? I'm happy for the RAY-DUHS fans (a good friend is one), but wow...that was a pathetic display by the Iggles, that kind of stuff will keep you out of playoffs. -1

Chicago @ Atlanta: Neither of these teams are impressing me, even though they're winning. I think Atlanta is more of a paper tiger than Chicago is though, especially defensively - Chicago 24 Atlanta 21

The Bears can't finish against good teams, thus, they are NOT a good team. Three chances to come away with points inside the Falcons 20, and nada. :scowl: Bears are destined to be playing golf in January, not football. -1

I hear ya, but I don't think the Saints are going to go 16-0, there are a few games coming up that are either "traps" (see Miami), and some tough ones (Atlanta twice, MNF against the Patsies). I still see us 14-2 or 13-3, but with home field for the playoffs.

And I am fully aware that even that isn't any guarantee (Tennessee was 13-3 and got trounced in their first post season game - at home).

Agreed on all counts, particularly Cutler, who is living down to his potential in Chicago, which gives me the joy of being able to laugh at Jivey.

However, he REALLY p!$$ed me off with that hack performance in Atlanta, I sure would have appreciated a bit of help from those Cubs.

The Vikings got lucky (yet again) to win against the Ravens - your "vaunted defense" gave up 21 points in the 4th quarter. They had a huge, apparently insurmountable lead, and lost it, and damn near lost the GAME in the process.

The Steelers are NOT the Ravens, they have a mature QB that knows how to play the game well, and a defense that is stingier than anything the Vikes have seen so far this year.

...and no, I'm not concerned about the Falcons, they're a good team, but they're eminently beatable by a team that can actually finish drives, unlike the Bears (who looked more like Cubs last night ).

However, I do think the Vikings will end up winning the NFC North, they just won't have home field, and they'll have to come to New Orleans for their @$$whuppin' in the playoffs.

I'm not making this a "style points" issue, what I'm saying here is that the Saints are stepping on the necks of opponents and NOT LETTING THEM BACK IN THE GAME.

It's more of a finishing issue, not so much a "we won by x points" issue. They're finishing. The get up on someone - say a very good team like the Giants - and they STAY there. As opposed to giving up 21 points in the 4th quarter and damn near losing the game at the last second.

I realize that the regular season record goes out the window when it's playoff time (and I'm not even counting THAT chicken yet!), but a team that is used to FINISHING in the regular season has that advantage in the post season, hm?
