I got no problem with Shockey. I guess the only issue I have with him is he likes to air his dirty laundry in public. That's cool and all if a guy wants to stand up and point out some deficiencies on his team, but do it in the locker room behind closed doors like all good team leaders do.

Not to turn this into the "continuing saga of Shockey" thread, but I have to admit that he looked & acted like a reformed guy. I watched him for all of the NYG years, and he was never as restrained & professional as he was yesterday. Of course, it didn't hurt that his team was b*tch-slapping his old crew ....

FWIW, I couldn't stand Shockey when he was in NY, and thought the trade was about the dumbest thing Payton had ever done.
Apparantly, Payton knew Shockey well enough from his tenure in Giant Blue to understand that he was, underneath the bluster, someone that had a lot of talent and just needed the right kind of situation. The Saints (so far) seem to be just that - a QB that won't put up with his BS when he starts tweeking, and a system that takes full advantage of his skills on the field.
Fear not, he gets plenty of fan harassment for his dum@$$ery when he commits it in the black & gold.
I just don't think he's so much a "bad seed" as a guy with a motor that won't quit, and doesn't know how to channel it without some assistance/guidance.And thanks for the acknowledgment that the Saints put a whuppin' on the Big Blue, I've seen some blogs from up that way that have found every possible excuse EXCEPT that they just got flat beat by a better (that day) team.
End of the first quarter. If things don't change soon, Gard will be absolutely insufferable all week. Go Saints!

...Vilma, Smith, Grant, Ellis, Ayodele, Shanle, Fujita, Greer, Porter, Harper, and most importantly: Sharper (thank you so much for pulling the defensive equivalent of the Chargers cutting Brees and letting us have him - against that bone-head from Kiln, he may get two pick-6's!
)And then there's that whole "no one even gets close" factor - no last minute heroics necessary in NOLA, they FINISH the opponent.

Why shouldn't they beat the Steelers. You didn't think they would beat Baltimore and you were wrong. You may not worry about the Falcons but you should be. It is the teams that you play twice a year that usually give you the most problems.

I'm keepin' my A-10 too, because it reminds me of my football team: ALL BUSINESS!!!
The Vikings got lucky (yet again) to win against the Ravens - your "vaunted defense" gave up 21 points in the 4th quarter. They had a huge, apparently insurmountable lead, and lost it, and damn near lost the GAME in the process.
The Steelers are NOT the Ravens, they have a mature QB that knows how to play the game well, and a defense that is stingier than anything the Vikes have seen so far this year.
...and no, I'm not concerned about the Falcons, they're a good team, but they're eminently beatable by a team that can actually finish drives, unlike the Bears (who looked more like Cubs last night
). However, I do think the Vikings will end up winning the NFC North, they just won't have home field, and they'll have to come to New Orleans for their @$$whuppin' in the playoffs.
The saints remind me of another team that crushed their opponents. They went 15-1 that year, set a record for most points scored in a season {556 which is now second} They were favorites that year to win the super bowl. In the NFC championship game the kicker who had not missed a field goal all season {35 for 35} missed. Game goes into overtime and the 1998 Vikings lose to the Atlanta Falcons.
I guess my point is, it isn't over until until it 's over. The season isn't even half way done yet. By the way, as much as I should hate the Falcons they are my second favorate team. My band plays at a guest ranch that Arthur Blank owns. He and his wife are very nice people.

I never said you were a creole, a cajun, a honkey, a cracker, or anything in particular. I have no particular preconceived notion about what ethnicity and subculture you belong to. You could be a Norwegian transvestite of Chinese decent for all I know.
What I said was what I am going to think now. Mouthy creole. New Orleans evokes strong images of creoles and cajuns both to me (though not as much as Lafayette), and I have never met one of either who wasn't mouthy as sin. You're also rather mouthy, and have a badass Warthog staring me in the face, which warns me ahead of time that I am about to step in a big steamy pile and should watch out (much like walking in the french quarter, pre-katrina).
Putting two and pi together equals Gard, and therefor, every time I see an A-10 (has been a while though) i will be reminded of a mouthy creole.
And a big steamy pile now.
