I'm like that with T.O. He has his history as a media-hog trouble maker (and has earned all the bad rap he's gotten), but I've always kind of liked him for some reason. Plus, he's never involved himself in the criminal activities of some of the others. He did a great job in a press conference in Buffalo a few weeks ago, where the press was quite obviously trying to bait him, and he kept it together and was all class. Sadly, with the way Buffalo has been playing, I'm expecting his loose lips to fly in the near future, however. :(

Yeah, two undefeated teams, both poised to run away with their divisions, both likely to face each other in the playoffs, both playing just about the best football in the NFL right now. Game of the week for sure, POTENTIALLY (note that I did use that word! :spit: ) of the season, because it could have bearing on homefield advantage in the NFC playoffs.

Here's the only stat I really care about:

New Orleans Saints: wins - 4; losses - 0

THAT matters.

:)

The rest of it is fun to discuss/argue about, but the W/L stat is what COUNTS.

And right now, we're counting pretty well in the black & gold.

You guys don't know Gard's feeling on stats? They ONLY matter if they boost his position as the Saints being the greatest team EVER! Otherwise, they don't matter.
If the Saints are leading or near the top of a category, they matter. If they are not, they don't matter. If a Saints opponent are statistically low in some category, stats matter. If a Saints opponent are high, they don't matter.
If the Saints are 4-0, only wins matter. If they are 4-4, the record doesn't tell the whole story!

I'm used to it, and it really doesn't bother me THAT much. You should be too, the Packers sucked wind for quite a while from the late 60's until the mid 90's.

Granted, this particular article is from a NY paper so take it for what it is worth ;). Plus, Myers isn't my favorite guy. There are other articles, as I find them I'll post up or PM 'em to you.

Don't get me wrong, Shockey is a huge talent and everything will be good as long as he gets his hand on the ball. I'm guessing he hasn't started to flap off when the pass doesn't go his way, or is under/over thrown .... hope you're right, hope Brees can control him ....

Man, you talk about twisting things, and then leaving out stuff. This dude definitely wanted to paint Shockey with the "ugly" paint brush, didn't he?

Essentially the same interview in the NOLA.com interview, but they didn't twist to the bad, just the good maybe?

Also, how about the team making Shockey pay his own way to the Super Bowl, make him stay somewhere other than the team did (and pay for that out of his own pocket), then wouldn't let him be on the sideline with his teammates? The dude did his best to WIN for the team, he got injured, he was a part of the success when they won that SB, and they totally blew him off - of course he was irritated, wouldn't anyone that cares about the team and the game be a bit put off? Notice THAT information wasn't included in the NY version of the article! :rollno: It isn't the money, he could easily afford it, it's the THOUGHT man, he's a member of the team, or at least was supposed to be, instead, he was totally blown off by the Giants organization from what I can see.

Look on the sidelines at any NFL game, there are always players in street clothes at the game, home or away, that are either out for some short time or IR'd for the season, and the team treats them as TEAM MATES, not an afterthought or someone that is an irritant.

Looking at how he was treated back then, I don't blame him for being sour about the Giants, not one bit.

Understandable, but flawed ....

Shockey was a cancerous tumor with the Giants .... slamming his helmet down on the field if Eli went to someone else with the ball, screaming and walking out of the huddle if his number wasn't called for the next play .... generally a really, really bad attitude and overall morale killer. I think once he got hurt, and the team saw how much more cohesive things were without him, they made a decision there and then to cut ties. Wrong behavior on the part of the Giants? Probably.

But Shockey always had an answer/excuse for his bad behavior. It was never his fault, he was just an innocent victim of the press, management, fans, media, etc. If he had ever manned up and acknowledged his own failings, the story may have had a different ending.

Shame of it is, he is a great player. Gives 1000% every time, not afraid to get super physical, has good work & practice habits .... there just wasn't any room on the NYG ego-wagon for Shockey, not with Tiki Barber & Strahan flapping their gums all day. The only difference between them and Shockey? Barber & Strahan gave respect to Manning, Shockey didn't .....

I'm glad he's working out for the Saints, he's a cool player to watch and seems really good for the team. Just keep an eye on him .... ;)

Well, Brees is a totally different type of QB psychologically than Eli.

Drew will NOT tolerate any crap from anyone. Last year, Shockey got a bit mouthy, and the next thing he knew he had a face full of Drew. Eli didn't bark back, the problem with a "barking dog" in a situation like that is that if you don't put him in his place, he won't know where his place is - if you don't SHOW him you're the leader, he will try to do it himself.

Eli didn't have that personality, so it was a bad match; Drew takes BS from NO ONE (I've also seen him give a piece of his mind to Payton a few times, and Payton seems to respect him as well).
