NHL 2008

Follow up question: How do you know it's spring in Toronto?

The Leafs are out.

It will NEVER get old. :)

Nope. And it's so true.

Props to the Sharks for capitalizing on the Wings lackluster play this weekend and opening up a 4 pt lead. IMHO it's going to hold. I thought the Wings could afford to drop 3 pts of their last 8 games and take 1st overall. They dropped 4 this past weekend. The 2nd seed is pretty much a lock. At this point if I'm GM I focus to tightening things for the playoffs and if ground is gained on the Sharks, great, if not, it's the post season that matters. Though to be honest, I'm hoping for shorter travel distance for at least the first round.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.....call off the troops!

The Pen's are thrashing the mighty Martin Broduer tonight. Six goals already, and the third isn't even half over yet. I think the Devil's are putting Weekes in now, or they just did.

Wednesday night, the Flyers played one of the worst games I've seen them play this season. They lost to the Leafs, and stunk up the place in doing so. They were disgusted with themselves after the game.

Apparently, Paul Holmgren was also pretty disgusted. He told them that the team leaders simply have to do a better job. They must have heard him, because tonight, on the second game of the home-and-home series, the Flyers led 5-0 after the first period. Got it to 6-0 before the Leafs started coming back. They cut it to 6-3, then back and forth until it ended up 8-5. Holmgren and Stevens will be happy with the 8 goals, but not with the 5 allowed. Once again, Biron did not look impressive.

On a positive note, Jeff Carter scored his first NHL hat trick. I couldn't believe he never had one before. He's an awesome player. And to think that they almost traded him away last year...

Phew....we clinched a playoff spot tonight by hanging six on the Lightning. Almost let the game get away from us if it weren't for Sid. After playing like crap and losing the last two games, I was starting to get nervous.

Ozzie had one gaffe against Minnesota that was bad (almost a replay of the infamous Jamie Baker giveaway in the 93 playoffs), but was great in the 3rd. Against Buffalo, he played very well. Seems like he's ramping it up at the right time.

At this point I'm rooting for either Anaheim to overtake Columbus for the 6 spot or for St. Louis to overtake Anaheim for the 7 spot (or better yet, have both St. Louis and Nashville overtake them) for the sole reason that I don't want as many late night starts for the Wings games. Less travel will also help for later rounds.

Are we going to start a different thread for the playoffs once they start or just keep it here?

Pretty interesting game between the Sharks and the Avalanche last night. That was the best I've seen Colorado play all season, but the Sharks also looked really sloppy out there.

Props to goalies Budaj and Nabokov, both played extremely well and kept the stalemate going until the shootout.

On another note, I cant wait for the playoffs to start :hyper:

^^^
Yeah. Normally if it goes to a shootout, I just assume that we'll skate off with 1 point instead of 2. Although lately, Biron hasn't been bad in the shootouts. Didn't get much help from the shooters the last time out.

But it does seem like we've been rather snake-bit in goal ever since the days of Bernie Parent. Had a great rising star in Pelle Lindbergh, but he was killed in a car wreck. Biron is probably the best goalie the Flyers have had for quite awhile. And I don't know how ANYBODY can play that position. I'd have nightmares of 100 mph slap shots coming at my head every night if I had to play goal... ;)

Man I got schooled in the rules of hockey last night. Yeah; apparently you can push the goalie into the net while he has control of the puck and be credited with a goal. Even the war room in Toronto ****** us on that one. Of course you can't hear the whistle on video replay even if Van Massenhoven blew it which he should have when Marty covered the puck with his glove.

I found out you can high stick and elbow all you want and not get called, but not if your a Flyer. Normally I don't like complaining about officiating but that was absolutely the worst....THE WORST called game I have ever seen.

The Flyers battled hard and channeled their emotions properly. They played disciplined even though the Rags got away with a dirty goal and a lot of dirty play. I hope they bring to the Rags on Sunday.

NYR...My new favorite team to hate.
