NHL 2008

Man I got schooled in the rules of hockey last night. Yeah; apparently you can push the goalie into the net while he has control of the puck and be credited with a goal. Even the war room in Toronto ****** us on that one. Of course you can't hear the whistle on video replay even if Van Massenhoven blew it which he should have when Marty covered the puck with his glove.

I found out you can high stick and elbow all you want and not get called, but not if your a Flyer. Normally I don't like complaining about officiating but that was absolutely the worst....THE WORST called game I have ever seen.

The Flyers battled hard and channeled their emotions properly. They played disciplined even though the Rags got away with a dirty goal and a lot of dirty play. I hope they bring to the Rags on Sunday.

NYR...My new favorite team to hate.

Good points all. But I've hated the Rangers for a long time. ;)

Alrighty....we did our part tonight and won our last game. We're tied with Philly right now with 99 points. No matter what, we got the Flyers in the first round. Home ice is decided tomorrow when the Flyers host the Rangers. Come on Rangers!!!!!!! You can do it.

Well, whichever team ends up 4th with home ice might not matter all that much. It'll be a tough opening round opponent for both teams. I think Pittsburgh took the season series 4-2. The Pens seem to have the Flyers number, as much as it pains me to say it. For the Flyers to win the series, Biron will have to come up real big.

Scoring-wise, the Flyers are well balanced. I think they have 6 25-goal scorers. They don't have the superstars like Crosby and Malkin, but if Biron plays well, it could easily go 7 games.

Oh definately. The Flyers have been scoring a ton of goals lately. Biron is a very solid goalie for sure. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a fight fest and they just play good hard hockey. Not that I mind a good fight now and then.

Ya know, I grew up in the Pittsburgh area, and generally root for Pgh teams. I would be a Penguins fan just on GP, but I just can't stomach that whiney, immature, snarky little baby Crosby.

LET'S GO FLYERS!

That's funny. I grew up near Pittsburgh also. I've been a lifelong Steelers and Pirates fan. But I lived closer to Philly in the '70's, so I became a Flyers fan. Crosby is a fantastic player to be sure. But I can't stand him either...:D

I like the Flyers chances against Pittsburgh in the opening round as opposed to conference finals (like last season). Pittsburgh has had Philly's number this season but the playoffs are a different beast all together. This should be a hard fought opening round. The Flyers are going into the playoffs healthy (unlike last year). I think they have managed a little bit of momentum at the end of the regular season (they better beat the Rags this afternoon). I think if they can make it through this round they can make a serious push to at least make the SC Finals.

Where did you live? I lived in Canonsburg from 1st grade until 2nd year of college when my parents moved to Philly.
I didn't know anything about hockey until I met my wife. She was a HUGE Flyers fan - season tickets for many years (only missed like 2-3 games), Stanley Cup games, went to an away game in every city except Buffalo, Atlanta, and Calgary - the whole nine yards.

I can't believe the pathetic display the Bruins had against the Sabres yesterday, that cost them the presidents trophy! Four goals against in the first...

Funny thing is the Sabres owned us all year, I think we won one against them.

We did get the Jennings, congratulations Tim Thomas! Can You say Vezina?

B's and the Habs first round......Classic

BTW the Frozen Four Final was a great game!Goliath crushed David in the last minute of the game.

I grew up in Johnstown. Left there in '68 when I went into the military, and haven't been back too often since (except for funerals). Moved to the Harrisburg area in '72 after my discharge. That's where I got into the Flyers. Moved to New Orleans in '85, then on to Memphis in '89. Been here ever since...

Hopefully all the pressure is on the home team. I can't believe we couldn't muster one measly point out of that game yesterday. Unbelievable. I hope the Caps whoop the crap out of the Rags in the first round.

I'm expecting the Flyers to bow out in the first round. We'll see what happens....Is it time for an NHL Playoff 09 thread.

Well this was a pretty pathetic year for my Thrashers. :(

Could have been worse...look at the Islanders' record.....26 47 and 9 :rollno:. That's pathetic...The Thrashers only finished 6 games away from .500. As long as they try to improve upon that next year they can make a playoff run. Kovalchuck is threat on the ice....once they get some depth and get their D going they should start filling those stands.

On another note: Thread for NHL Playoffs 2009 is here.
