NHL 2013 off season thread

I'm no more sure then anyone else, but I do remember the angry fans, the pictures from Boston fans making fun of him after the Pens lost the series, the booing, and the comments from Chiarelli after he got snubbed. It is interesting you're acting like you don't know what I'm taking about here.
Now Boston signs him and he's a model of commitment and apparently puts fans up in his hotel without telling them.
Look, I like the guy and have for a long, long time. I hope he kicks butt next season. I'll be a fan no matter who he plays for. I just laugh at the 180 some Boston fans have done on the guy in the last few hours.

I'm the weird one though,I do not judge a character because of personal feeling of being slighted by someone who I don't know who was making a professional career decision.

Not sure of your number, but add in Marc Savard's "relief" and my take is that they have about $8M. Just enough room to sign Rask.

I don't understand why other sports fans don't think this way. In fact, it blows my mind. I know people who have moved to the Boston area who root for players on other teams.

For context, this is sports we're talking about. I'm far more rational about things that matter more.
I heard a lot of Iginla's contract is performance/incentive based, so the actual cap hit is lower.
The Wings did the same with Alfredson. It certainly makes sense.
I still think the Bruins have got bigger problems than ingla replacing Horton solves. They better hope Chara was hurt and not getting old. But they looked a step slow and a little old against the Blackhawks for most of the last half of the series. To me they had all of the signs of a team that will struggle to get back next year. Although in fairness the Blackhawks are real good right now. Unlike last year the best team in Hockey definitely won the cup this year.
Before the Bruins series, I think Iginla was 3rd on the Pens in points in the playoffs. The entire team just flopping in the ECF seems to have made everyone forget how great some of the Pens played in the first two series. I think Iginla has a lot left in the tank.
Best of luck to Cooke. Despite his history, he was always a favorite of mine for being one of the hardest working guys on the ice, and never backing down from anyone. Fortunately, there are plenty of guys out there like that, who also won't get "2 minutes for being Matt Cooke" so this may be good for the Pens.

I agree.. I'm more worried about D at this point.
Hopefully they'll have enough depth to manage his minutes to keep him effective.

The D does look to get younger as the Seguin trade brought in a solid young D-prospect. I bet we'll see more of Krug/Hamilton/Bartman. But I agree, time to limit Chara's minutes.
Morrow is promising but totally unproven at this level. He's a kid,WHL 2 seasons ago.The fact that he was traded twice in four months is a red flag IMHO.

Cool stat on Iginla...he is one of three active NHL players with over 500 career NHL goals. Without looking, can you name the other two?

I'm with Zoot on this one - I think that the team made a commitment and since it was the highest price, they were hoping that Iginla would go along. He thought he had the best chance for a cup with Pittsburgh and at the time, I would have agreed with him. Pittsburgh gave up less than the B's were willing to pay, but it was enough for Calgary to make the deal. While Boston fans including myself had some public dismay at how it went down, the B's organization from players to ownership, at least publically, were taking the high road and saying that Iginla earned his no-trade status and it was his right to chose where he wanted to go. Privately, it was probably motivating in the dressing room.
The B's do have $5.6 M left but they have to sign Tuuka and they will need more that that to get it done. They will to dip into the Savard Long-term injured reserved money.
A first round pick too. I watched Morrow play for the Portland Winterhawks, and I thought he was great. Granted, I am not an NHL scout either.
When Pittsburgh selected him #23 overall in the 2011 draft, I was really happy. I thought for sure he'd make a mark on the team and be a key to the Penguins defense for years to come. I was unhappy when they let him go for Brenden Morrow, that's for sure. Part of me wants to believe he could be the best player the Bruins picked up in this deal, but like you, I can't ignore the two trades in four months. I sure hope I'm right though.

One right! Wouldn't that be cool to see Jagr and Iginla playing together? Two of the active 500+ goal scorers on the same team.
