NHL 2013 off season thread

That was me too. He just seems to be popping up whenever I'm reading about hockey. No kidding.
Roenick played in 9 All-Star Games 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004. Not sure about the others. Notable went 4 for 4 in the shootout competition twice.
I hate Roenick as a person but as a player he was pretty fantastic.
I love Billy G, but not sure he has the resume to get in. It's still pretty impressive though. First player of Hispanic descent to play in the NHL, two Stanley Cups, four All Star games, one All Star MVP, retired as 7th all time in goals among American players.
I'll forever remember him as the calming influence that he brought to the locker room that helped the Penguins win their most recent cup. He brought a lot of intangibles that really helped Sidney Crosby grow as a player and human being.

Well, I already said Billy G had 4 All Star appearances and that website says 1... Wonder how they could screw up so bad?
I have the exact same memory. I knew it was coming, but I was so disappointed when he retired. Oh yeah, I have this memory too....

I've read that Billy G hazed the crap out of Sid, but in a friendly way. I imagine having an all star veteran who's not afraid to make fun of the prodigal son was beneficial in keeping Crosby grounded.

That Rask contract makes me feel a lot better about the Letang contract now LOL. Horrible deal on the Bruins part imo. Congrats to Rask though 
Time will tell on the Rask deal. I'm glad that it got done. The average annual salary is certainly in line with a top goalie. I'm sure that the B's might have preferred fewer years but does that it make it horrible? They probably correctly determined that there were teams that would have given Rask the length he was looking for. He is only 26, so the B's have effectively locked up his prime. As the cap goes up, maybe those later years will look like a bargain.
I don't disagree paying him 7 mil AAV, he's earned it. But 8 years? I'll be surprised if Boston doesn't end up regretting that contract.
Maybe so, but it's a better bet than Letang's similar contract. Most even marginally decent defenseman could put up 40 points a year playing on a PP with Malkin, Crosby, Dupis, Neal...Without them he's just slightly above average.
In Rask's 4 years with them, he has never had lower than .918 save %...They got a long sample size out of him.
