I love this quote from Jagr when asked if he would be re-signed by Boston...
"I don't think I will. Maybe if I would score 20 goals in the playoffs, it would be a different story. I was 20 short."

He really seemed to enjoy his time here and he embraced the role of aging hired gunslinger. I'll miss him. No goals but 10 assists including some very important ones and some good work along the boards on goals that didn't result in an assist. The B's have to be OK with that deal.
Don't forget the hook on Malkin that lead to Bergeron's game winning goal in the double OT game. Major assist there!

Why would it be nuts to trade Letang? He won't want what Pittsburgh can offer, so I anticipate Shero pulling a similar move draft day like he did with Jordan Staal. We've got a young guy named Simon Despres who I think has potential to be even better than Letang and will fill his skates nicely.
I don't agree with a lot of Pens fans animosity toward Jagr. One of my favorite players ever. Hope he continues to play in the NHL, this time on a team I can cheer for. 
Lecavaliers buyout is 33 million! Why are such long deals necessary? I'll never understand why the Isles signed DiPietro for 15 years or whatever...
I don't really know the context of the pens, it just seems like it would be unwise to trade one of the best D of the league while he's still that young (26?).
Just like I would be mad if Montreal were talking about trading subban.
No one ever understood the DiPietro deal, not even DiPietro himself. I bet that he jumped at the chance to sign it though.

Well obviously they wouldn't trade him just to trade him. He'll be a UFA after next season if he doesn't sign an extension, and is going to want at least $5 mil/yr more than what they're paying him right now.
Plus, I wouldn't even call him one of the best. He is a turnover machine and a hot head who doesn't handle himself well when riled up. We already have an excellent D man who can play the point and advance the puck in Paul Martin who is a more sound player on defense at a cheaper contract.
Khoudobin's name has popped up as well. I've seen him play only a few times and didn't really have anything good or bad to say. Perhaps a little bit of "he's; ah goalie. I'm not sure how good he is or can be but if he is as you say; I'd be into it. Seems like there is plenty to choose from. May be a good idea to find someone who they can "kick the tires" with.

Nah; Flyers reserve that sorta money for Vezina Nominees only.
I'm just hoping that Homer has learned from his mistakes.
No more huge contracts for unproven players (Bryz) or defensemen who are about to retire (Hatcher, Rathje [in fairness those may have been Clarke signings] Pronger).
Let's not give up on young talent (Richards/Carter) because they can't handle [expletive deleted] reporters who blow things out of proportion and use the excuse that they aren't needed cause younger talent is gonna live up to expectations (cough cough JVR, no slag,...he seems to have fit in in TOR a lot better than he did here but injuries kinda put a damper on his time in Philly).
And lasty;
Lets not let a young defensemen (Matt Carle) walk cause you didn't think he was worth ~5 mil on the FA market,...then turning around a season later and giving an aging; only marginally better defenseman (Mark Striet) 5.25 mil.
Same here. I felt burned when I felt he played the Pens a couple years ago to get the Philly deal. But I'm over that, and I totally love watching him play. It will be sad when retires, Selanne too.

Jagr was total class during his brief tenure in Philly. Stellar example and mentor to the younger players. Great attitude and amazing work ethic. Had his own key to the practice facility, and would work out long after everybody else had gone.
And while he wasn't scoring for the Bruins in the playoffs, he was definitely working hard. That drew a lot of attention from opponents, and he made some very nice passes. I've always had tons of respect for the guy.
That's pretty funny. I'll tell you what. Holmgren was one tough hombre in his playing days...

You couldn't cheer for the Big Bad Bruins? They are practically America's team. Plus Derek Sanderson was pretty much the template for Jagr, at least off-ice.
