The thing is, it's not about him being a class act in regard to the buyout. He's been that way for years in the Tampa Bay community and as a member of the team.

I don't agree with a lot of Pens fans animosity toward Jagr. One of my favorite players ever. Hope he continues to play in the NHL, this time on a team I can cheer for.
Im with ya on that LB, how you gonna hate a guy that helped you win 2 Cups? Same with Max Talbot, someone (even if it is the freakin Flyers) sticks $25 mil in your face, how you gonna turn it down? I love Dupuis and hope he stays, but he's like 34 or something, he has to go for the big bucks now, while he can.
Gonchar is 39, he just signed with Dallas for 2 years, $10 mil. Good for him.

Horton says goodbye to Boston, they tell their UFA'a to take a hike, rumor has it Seguin is being shopped around. Interesting times in Boston.

They HAVE to sign Rask. You probably will know more than I about reducing cap space but they have to reduce is what I know.

Word on the street is that the Flyers are shopping Coburn around.
He has one lousy short season due in no small part to the log jam/revolving door of injuries that the Flyers' defense experienced plus the fact that he was paired with a D partner (Grossman) that was less than ideal and they wanna get rid of him?
I'm not slagging on Grossman but an ideal D pairing is someone willing to block shots, and dig pucks out of the corners and then another who is solid with outlet passes and makes good decisions with the puck; the later two neither Grossman or Coburn are good at.
I think it's a big mistake to give up on a consistent top 4 defenseman like Coburn because he wasn't put in position to succeed. Instead; why don't they move under preformers, Kurtis Foster; Kent Huskins; and injury prone Mezsaros (not completely convinced that is smart either) and pair Coburn up with a solid puck mover (Gustufson/Timmonen) that puts them in a position to succeed.

I agree. Ference isn't a top defenseman, but when it comes to playing with heart and determination, he's all over it. He is the consummate teammate. But, we're pretty full on the blue line, especially with young talent, so something has to give.
I love the guy, but this is the reason. and his contract expired, so it makes sense.
Although I am a lifetime Bruins fan, the skill, toughness & class displayed by Chicago made me now a Blackhawk fan taboot.
Latest reports now on Letang say the finishing touches are being put on an 8yr/$58,000,000 deal to stay in Pittsburgh.

I sure hope for the pens he's going to play well for all those years. Otherwise that's quite a weight to pull with the cap.
Limited No Trade Clause on Letang's contract. GM Shero is no dummy, he can still deal him if he has to.
Tyler Kennedy to the Sharks for a second round pick. I'm going to miss TK, sort of. He wasn't an impact player, but he did the grunt work no one else wanted to.

Letangs trade clause just means he lists 15 teams he can be dealt to. If they don't love him this year, he's still only a $3.5 mil cap hit until the next year, so I still see him being traded at some point.
Flyers use their #11 pick to draft a 6'6", 210 pound 17 year old defenseman.

He definitely fits the mold of what the Flyers like in a Dman. Hopefully they scouted this one well and he actually makes it to the big club.

The B's had a $ amount and a # of years in mind for what they could do for Horton which left enough to take care of Rask and Bergeron; unfortunately, it was probably less than what Horton can get on the open market. I'm glad that the B's stuck to their evaluation; but at the same time, I hope that Horton does land a big contract; he is a tough talented player.
Rask is a RFA, but they will get him and Bergeron done.
There is talk about signing Lecavallier to take Horton's place - that would be very cool but Toronto might outbid us.
There is also talk about Iginla - they liked him at the deadline and they still like him.

If he wants to stay, he needs to step up his game. I think the B's will give him another year to figure it out.

Was wishing they would have gotten Nurse or Ristolainen but Morin was a rapid climber up the rankings charts coming into the draft. We'll see how he develops.
Sad that the Leafs were unable to draft Tie Domi's son while the Devils were able to draft Brodeur's son.
