NHL 2013 post season thread!

Bylsma put the nail in the coffin for Vokoun. Was a BAD move taking him out. B's set up a triangle in the high slot and didn't get touched on that last one he let in. --Take a goalie out when he sucks, not when his defense takes a coke and sandwich break while B's are bringing it up the ice.
No offense intended, but that is why coaches are coaches. They know what they're doing.

Taking a confident goalie out when the D is out to lunch after letting in a bunch of goals is the right move. Why? Because you don't want to humiliate him by keeping him in there, being at the mercy of a core of players who don't have the motivation or skill that night to play well in front of him. He would therefore consequently lose his confidence and wouldn't be as sharp next game. Having him leave the net isn't automatically a humiliating thing ; more like a mercy trade. ;)

Meanwhile, you're giving the other guy a chance to surprise you.

I was in my car driving back from a meeting when I turned the radio on and heard the score was 3-0. I nearly drove off the road when I realized that it was the B's that were up. Then when the Pens scored, I was thinking - uh-oh, here they go, late in the period, that will give them a huge lift, then Marchand scores, and again, I'm not sure how I stayed on the road.

The Pens won something like 15 in row this year so they are certainly capable of turning this around; but the B's, who have been Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde all year have seemed to settled in Dr. Jekyl mode just in time (with just enough Mr. Hyde to give them a nasty edge). The Pens have been physical, but to what end? That is not there game and it doesn't really phase the B's.

I was doing a lot of driving today so heard a lot of sports talk radio. The best line was a description of Jagr as a guy who turns his cell phone off on Fathers Day. That said, he hasn't scored a goal yet, but the passes are getting even better and he seems better integrated in the offense - I though it was a good move by the B's players to award him the Army jacket after the game.

Vokoun in the net tonight. Have to think that's basically the end of Fleury in Pittsburgh.
