NHL 2013 post season thread!

That was a minor clip to the face mask that he saw coming and should have easily shrugged off with little more than a flinch. Instead, you can see him use his legs to intentionally propell himself into the back of the net to try to make the impact look a lot worse than it was.
It's common in the NHL because it works so often to draw a penalty. Still, it lacks the class that hockey is known for and even if it isn't obvious live, it always shows up on the replay in slo-mo. Also, if the ref doesn't buy it then the player taking the dive gets a delay of game penalty.

I caught the 3rd period of Mon-Ott. In between the fighting, a hockey game broke out. It has to be tough to be a Montreal fan today. Plenty of embarrassing plays last night. It will be interesting to see the amount of suspensions handed out. I'm not sure if there is a rule that specifically forbids taking a slapshot from behind the red line and aiming it at a player rather than the goal with 2 seconds left; but it does seem to be contrary to player safety.
Looking forward to tonight's B'-Leafs. The Leafs took two steps forward in Game 2 and the B's took one step back. The B's were saying all the right things before game 2 about how they hadn't done anything yet, its a long series and that the Leafs were a good team and will be coming at them hard - but the way the B's played game 2 indicated to me that they didn't really believe it (and the Leafs believed that they are in fact a good team that is going to play hard). You can't let a talented, but inexperienced team hang around in the playoffs because then they get some confidence, the B's need to start and finish strong tonight.

So no punishment for Bourque's elbow on Conacher, which is a text book dirty move with the only intention behind it being to injure the other player. Hey, at least the NHL is consistently inconsistent with their suspensions.

I doubt anybody will get suspended. There were no instigators and everything happened way before the last 5 min of the end of the game.
And yes, plenty of embarrassing "plays" for the Habs. They got outplayed and then tried to goon it up at the end... and failed at that too! LOL! From the drop of the puck, they let the Sens dictate the style and pace of the game. If the Habs keep playing like this, they're done in 5, plain & simple. If they stick to their strengths (their speed, for instance), they have a chance to climb out of that hole.
Alfredsson himself in the same building did that to Niedemeyer when he played for the Ducks in game 7. No suspension there either and the puck went right to his chest whereas Gorges' shot when to the leg which is a protected area. Nothing will come of this.
Yep. Watched the 2nd period of last game and the Bruins collectively looked like a deer in headlights. Very strange to see since the Bruins are usually tighter than that. Rask is doing everything he can to keep the puck out of the net. I'm not impressed with the top-6 so far except maybe Seguin who's at least using his speed.

More so on the Habs' side. Gratuitous elbows to the face, a double-handed slash, a shot towards a player on purpose, and a bigger guy going after a smaller guy.
Basically, for that game, they were sore losers. End of story.
In his first stint with the Habs, Therrien would've gone ape, but he's mellowed and learned from his mistakes. Nevertheless, his comments are rather blunt during the press conferences, win or lose.
Truth be told, Therrien got outcoached by MacLean. And the fact that Therrien reacted the way he did proves that the mindgames MacLean is playing are working.
MacLean should in spite of what Therrien has done with the Habs, get the Jack Adams, IMHO.
Strat - that was pretty much the consensus about the B's and the Mon-Ott game around here. Seguin was not a factor in the first game but he was the only B that played better in the 2nd than the first.
If we get the Seguin from Game 2 and the rest of the guys from Game 1, the B's will be OK.
The Toronto fans remind me of me as a Red Sox fan pre-2004; they want to believe but they are not convinced and are expecting something bad to happen.

And the league confirms there won't be any suspensions for any players involved in yesterday's Habs/Sens game.
For me, the story of the Playoffs has been the Habs/Sens series where in every game one player lost at least one tooth. That player gets the 1st star of the game and is the hero. Strange coincidence.

Ugh; I know this is gonna smack at homer-ism; but put Rene Bourque in a Flyers jersey and he sits for 5 games.
Not sure why that entire period is being treated as one entire incident. That Bourque elbow is the epitome of an act that deserves suspension.
