NHL 2013 post season thread!

Way to go Fleury. He got his cup and contract and lost his edge. Time to let him sit and bring in Voukon.

-Mike

Any nervousness to bring Vokoun in cold in a game 5?

If they really commit to the decision I could get behind it, and it's certainly ballsy, but there's always an inherent risk in making that call.

Some of those soft goals Fleury gave up were really disconcerting. Complete lack of concentration.

Wow. Seriously? This just adding insult to injury. That goal wasn't good. You can see the kicking motion.

I've seen peewee referees with more talent.

**** this league, I'll be watching LHJMQ next year.

Ouch. Habs take a 2-0 lead and lose to a badly reffed game. A distinct kicking motion goal was accepted even after review and the Sens got another lucky goal in OT.

The Habs did play a sloppy 3rd period, though. Multiple icing calls and they frankly stopped attacking the offensive zone. Nevertheless, this is a heartbreaking loss for Habs fans as the team really had outplayed the Sens.

Not only did they go into this game without Gionta and White, but they also lost Price and Prust. And that's not counting Emelin's injury. The team is down 3-1 and key pieces in every position are simultaneously injured. It's over.

Now, I'll be cheering for the Sens to win the Cup.

How can you do a kicking motion with two feet at the same time ? It's called "breaking" ;)

Seriously , the puck hitted his stick and deviated on his skate , no way a guy can have reflexes that fast and kick it with his foot.

And also , it went to video review , so you are saying that all these guys are incompetent ?

As for the Penguins, I've been saying for the past couple of years that Fleury is the league's most overrated goalie. He lets in really REALLY crappy goals on a regular basis. Tonight was no different.

It'd be ironic if they were to be eliminated by the Islanders, considering the amount of stars that there are on the Pens versus the Islanders. I have to give credit to a young scrappy Islanders team for staying toe-to-toe with the offensive threat that is the Pens.

No sale. Watch the video. It is clear as day that there's a kicking motion with the right skate which is also twisting awkwardly on the outside, a motion that has nothing to do with breaking.

This is something known to anybody who's ever played hockey. Pretty obvious, really.

I like this one, even though a Caps fan had the idea first. :)

The announcers can blame MAF (Fleury), all the want (yes that last goal he gave up was brutal), but a lot of the Islanders goals would not have happened without the Isles working their asses off on every shift. Kyle Okposo has been a wrecking crew on his own. They have outworked the pens every period beginning in game 2, with the possible exception of period 2 tonight.
They have to, they're not as talented. But, dammit, if they don't give their all.

As an Islander fan, I'm very proud of the effort.
.
If you would have told me the Islanders would be outplaying any team in the playoffs after 4 games back in February, I would have had a good laugh.

I'm not so proud of the fan noise when crosby took that puck to the neck, but with his rep for diving, I think that might have happened in any city but at home in pittsburg during the playoffs. I'm not condoning it by any means. There are jackasses in every city.

The playoffs are all about work; that's why this is tied 2-2; I could argue it could/should be 3-1 Isles.

Vokoun has been good againt the NYI.
I hope they stick with MAF.

I clearly see this as a distinct redirecting of the puck, not a distinct kicking motion. By the letter of the rule, it's a good goal. I don't personally feel that these types of goals should be allowed, but there's a line of subjectivity that the rule attempts to avoid. A player can reposition his feet to direct a puck into the net, but cannot kick it in. The difference between distinct kicking and positioning one's skate is not very subjective, so it's the basis for how the rule is written. Attempting to decide whether a player intentionally or unintentionally positioned his skate(s) to redirect a puck is far more subjective and hence, these types of goals are within the rules of the game.

Yeah that's why I was saying this , I play hockey.
I look at it and I see a guy breaking/turning and a puck hitting his stick before hitting the skate.
When you break, especially when somebody's on you and the goal is to get position on the guy, both of your skates will usually be paired together. Both feet will be at a perpendicular angle to where you're being pushed to.

2 feet wide apart with the left turning outwards when breaking? That doesn't really happen and it's quite uncomfortable to do, too... and his foot is seen kicking the moment the puck hit his foot.

I don't care which jersey that guy was wearing ; that's a deliberate kicking motion in my book.

Fleury has given up 14 goals in the last three games. That's enough for this armchair coach.

I think Fleury is a great goalie during the regular season. But he's been torched a lot in the playoffs (not just this year), so I think he tenses up if the Pens don't give him a big lead to work with. It appears to be a confidence thing (or lack thereof). If I were Bylsma, I think I'd give Vokoun the nod next game. But I don't think he will. I think he'll stick with The Flower.

In the Ottawa/Habs game, I think that disputed goal was a very close call, and could have gone either way. I don't have a dog in the fight, so I think I'm being objective. My opinion is that he was braking to a stop when the puck hit the skate. I did not see it as a distinct kicking motion, but I can see where some people might. But the call on the ice was a good goal, and I don't think the replays could show a definitive kicking motion.

These playoffs are odd for me, since the Flyers aren't in them. I still enjoy watching though, just because playoff hockey is so intense. I just don't really care who wins or loses, but I do tend to pull for the underdogs in each series.

At first I thought kicking, then upon further review, I saw repositioning and braking.

My rules of thumb on these are: does the player look more like a soccer player or a hockey player on the play and is the goalie in danger of getting kicked on the play. By those standards, it was a good goal.

Any word on why Price didn't come out for the OT?
That last shot just ticked off the top of his glove - another half-inch higher and the Sens win at 19:58.5 of the 3rd.

I usually don't watch sports without a Boston team in it; but I have enjoyed watching a fair amount of Sens-Habs. In fact, the Habs looked a lot like the regular season B's in not being able to hold on to a two goal lead in the 3rd.

Although I have to admit that a Montreal loss is almost as good as a B's win. ;)
