i like the flames all the way now

but that game shouldn't have ended like it. did anyone else besides me see what happened in the second period?

the canucks were on a power play and the pounding at the net. the net came loose and got knocked back. the puck ended up on the goal line. when they showed a view from the goal cam, you could see for a split second the puck across the line before the net came loose. it wasn't challenged at all.

Please, don't say it that way. :hmm:

The Hartford Whalers left town and became the Carolina Hurricanes. But as far as most of us Whaler fans are concerned, the team is defunct, and it was a new entity that sprung up down in the the hockey hotbed of North Carolina.

And the old league was the WHA, not WHL! ;)

When I go to games in Anaheim and occasionally LA, I always wear a Whalers jersey (usually my home #11, Kevin Dineen). It always gets compliments, thumbs up, high fives, etc. I know a few old Whalers fans around the country (part of the Great Green Diaspora, you might say) who do the same, and they always get positive comments.

Here is my problem with avalanche... they got offensive tallent... but no D... they got s8 loud of great all start players but they are all offensive... i dont think it works, especially because sharks got decent offense and great D... look for high scoring games i geuss... except if nabby is going to be himself:]

So what do you call Bob Bouhgner, Ossi Vannanen, or Rob Blake? The problem is, our offense overshadows our D. We don't have a lot of Defensive stars, but it is still solid. San Jose just had a good end of the season run that is about to run out. ;) The Avs are coming together every night and pretty soon, it is all going to click, so goaltenders beware.

yes i will give av's 1 game... maybe 2:]

i do agree that av's are good... but i mean... look at ny rangers... give me a brake... sharks play better together and dont have a star on a team... I really think the idea of playing together way they have is whats going to win it... i seen av's games they have alot of stars but i dont think they play well together:/ salani is prity good defensivly but he is salffish sometimes:]

The N.Y. rangers are a joke. You can't compare them to anyone. The go out a grab all the star players without researching how they might play together ending up in a high salary and a bunch of star players on a losing team.

Pierre Lacroix does his homework and gets players that work well together. He took Kariya and Selanne because they both wanted to come to a team that has a legitimate shot at the Cup. It was a gamble, but an inexpensive one at that. Kariya has been hurt so much, that he has not had a chance to mesh with the rest of the team. Selanne just does not fit in to the Av's system well at all. Chris Gratton, Ossi Vannanen, Bob Boughner, and Matthew Barnaby all fit in to the team very well, and is shows. So yeah, we have alot of stars, and a good mix of hard working hockey players, but they work as a team just like the Sharks do.

As for the Sharks in five..........................that is just disrespectful. :p It is the playoffs, and anything is possible, but it is highly unlikely to happen. I expect the series to go at least 6 games probally 7. I will just wait and see what happens.

I noticed that and I wondered why no one challenged it at first, but I believe now that the whistle may have blown before the puck crossed the line. Kiprusoff had the puck covered and the Canucks jabbed at it until it went in.

Ya... fine... i give you guys 6 games... then you are out:]

I acctually do like the combo you guys have... talking trash abit just for hell of it:P (nothing personal :P ) and yes NY is a joke and i only said it to get to you or anyone for that matter:]

For the sharks vs av's all i can say that its going to be very intresting to watch... probebly will be a good series:] i am prity sure i am going to go for few games not the 1st two but... you know when shark will be up 3-1 i might go to that one to see them move on:P

What do you guys think of the other second round matchups.

I think Calgary will be a handful for Detroit, but they will be too beat up after the tough series against Vancouver and wont be able to withstand the depth and skill of Detroit. Calgary has Iginla, but he is going to have to put up with Maltby and Draper for the whole series so he will really have a tough time scoring. The wild card is of course, Kiprusoff. Skilled teams like Detroit (or Ottawa) can be beaten by a hot goaltender because when the goalie gets into their head they tend to try and make pretty, perfect plays instead of just driving to the net and scoring ugly goals which is what you have to do against a hot goalie. I think Calgary is better than Nashville, but Detroit will play better against Calgary so I say DET in 6.

San Jose and Colorado is a pretty tough series to pick. Colorado obviously has a talent edge, but SJ plays a very good team game and are very agressive, similar to Calgary in a lot of ways. San Jose is also very good on home ice, although Colorado was one of the best road teams. The problem for SJ is that Colorado has the Forsberg line and the Sakic line and I hear that two of SJ's best checkers, McCauley and Thornton are injured. Because of that I have to think Colorado has an edge so COL in 7.

Anything can happen, but I'd have a tough time imagining Toronto beating Philly. Last year Toronto was badly outplayed by Philly in round one but actually managed to get a 3-2 series lead because Belfour was so much better than Cechmanek. However, after that it seems Philly finally figured out how to score on Belfour and they whooped them good in games 6 and 7. Belfour is going to have to put up with a lot more traffic than he did against Ottawa and he tends to get really upset when he is bothered like that and it throws him off his game. Philadelphia's forwards drive much harder to the net that Ottawa's and are much bigger and I think TO's defence is too wimpy to handle them. Toronto will be very motivated for this series because of losing last year, but I just don't think they are good enough. PHI in 6.

Tampa/Montreal is wide open. Given the standings, Tampa should blow them away, and they might, but Montreal is on a roll now and Theodore seems to be playing very well. Tampa's forwards are really quick and will be a handful for Montreal's defence, and the Koivu/Zednik/Kovalev line is going to be checked to death. When you analyze it, Tampa should win, but for the sake of picking at least one big upset I'm going to go for MTL in 7.

As for the other series, Detroit over Calgary in 5, they are just too well coached to lose this one.

Toronto over Philly in 7, They have a little luck on thier side and a good goalie.

Montreal over Tampa in 7. Montreal is the spoiler of the playoffs. They are very hard working club, and I think their talent is underestimated.

montreal sounds good...

i do have a problem with detroit and toronto i think its too close to call... my main problem is... they are old:/ i like toronto and think they can take philly because of lacking in goalie department (and i am for toronto because of nolan... give him back i tell u!)

and flames... well they work prity hard... so i think detroit is going to have a problem there...

overall i think alot of teams too close to tell:] except for sharks... i changed my mind... its going to be sharks in 3... maybe 4:P (i count after 3 wins av's will forfit) :P

BTW switching of avatars? that shark was nice...:P

Detroit is a good team with a lot of experience, but man...they couldn't win in overtime to save their lives! In all these years that they have been at the top of the league and winning the Cup almost every other year they are just 2-10 in playoff overtime.

I didn't see the whole game, but I guess Detroit outshot Calgary pretty badly so Kiprusoff must have played well. I'm sure Detroit will bounce back, but I expected the Flames to win a few.
