NHL PLayoffs 2009

You follow up from saying Ovechkin is a pompous ego maniac by saying you LIKE Sergie Federov?

:hmm:

While the irony here is painfully funny to anyone who followed Detroit in the 90's, I have to agree with kserg's point. Federov's ego is NOTHING compared to the vast majority of pro football/baseball/basketball players. I'd even venture to say that had Federov pulled his "Sam Jones" bit at a non-original six franchise it wouldn't be looked at as badly as it is (and for the record, Lindros (and his daddy) forcing the Nordiques to trade his draft pick by saying he wouldn't sign or play for them is much worse, imho) :)

This just in:

Pavel Datsyuk gets a well-deserved, yet surprise nod as a Hart Trophy Finalist. While I don't expect him to win it, I do expect him to reclaim the Lady Byng and Selke (as a consolation prize). The link: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

And go figure, the NHL screwed it up. Read the comments - the article has been edited. It originally said
Ovechkin is bidding to become the first repeat Hart winner since Dominik Hasek led the Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 1997-98.
. Too funny since Hasek wasn't traded to the Wings until 2001. At least they fixed it.

Well deserved, yes. I can totally see a situation where he gets it. AO and Malkin split the majority of votes, and Datsyuk sweeps in and steals the trophy.

While I totally want my guy to win, I have no problems with Dats picking it up.

Pavel Datsyuk is probably the best all around player in the league right now. It's good to see him get the nomination even though he won't win.

The Red Wings are so deep that they would probably be where they are now even without Datsyuk, so it would be a little harder giving him the Most Valuable Player. The Wings don't depend on him for success like the Capitals depend on Ovechkin.

I don't believe the Wings have had a Hart winner during any of their cup seasons. Probably because their system (back-checking forwards who play D) calls for sacrifice of personal statistics. I agree with BB on this one Datsyuk is the best all around player in the NHL. I mean the Pens don't even use Crosby on the Penalty kill.

Wings draw first blood tonight. I kinda suspect the series will go this way. Anaheim is a very good defensive team. The biggest reason the Wings will win is that they're deeper. The Wings have all four lines producing now, and Anaheim is really only skating three lines. I think Fatigue and depth will make the difference. I agree with Xym, Wings in six. And I suspect only one game will be won by more then two goals.

On other question, has their ever been a better 39 year old hockey player then Nick Lidstrom?

Well bummer, the Caps strike first. Nice goal by Sid to open the scoring, and a stellar save by Varlamov on Sid to preserve the Caps win. Varlamov was great tonight.

How in the world does our defense leave AO alone next to the net on a PP??? :rollno:
