NHL PLayoffs 2009

^^^^^

I see that as usual, my timing was impeccable with my glowing endorsement of Malkin. The Caps won game two tonight, to take a 2-0 series lead. Everybody was bad-mouthing Malkin after the game because he was a non-factor. He still might snap out of it and prove them wrong.

Ovechkin and Crosby (the ones I called divas) each had a hat trick. Even though I don't like either one of them, I have to admit that they're awesome players. On Crosby's last goal he batted in his own rebound on the fourth try. (Shot - comes back to him. Shot - comes back to him... On the fourth rebound, he knocks it in like he was taking batting practice. And all 3 of Ovechkin's goals were lasers.

I don't really dislike Crosby, however as far as Ovechkin goes, I really like that player. Don't really think of him as Diva, I think he is just having fun and he is an amazing player.

I am really pulling for Caps right now because i want Fedorov to get one more cup outside of Wings.

Well schucks, that game didn't turn out quite how I planned. We still have time to save the series, but we are now in a must win situation heading into game three. Bummer.

We seemed to start off real hot last night, and played really physical. When the Caps started hitting back, we stopped for some reason and let them push us all over the ice. Letang got popped real hard and left the ice, which I think scared the rest of our guys.

As for Malkin, when he's hot, watch out. When he get's cold, he just up and disappears.

I didn't really know what to think of this Kunitz guy when we picked him up, but now I know what to think of him. Get rid of the guy. I'm sure he brings some dimension to the game I don't quite understand yet, but I think we can do just fine without him.

same here. I don't know how anyone can call him a diva. He is one of the most down to earth players in the NHL. You get the impression he just really enjoys playing the game and savors every second of it. Some of the sound bytes taken out of context can make him seem diva-ish I suppose but you have to realize a lot of the time he is just joking around with people.

Also, what's up with Kunitz cross checking Varlamov in the neck at the end of the game?

If the league doesn't suspend him for that (I am kind of doubtful of a suspension since there was no injury) I sure hope the Caps give him what he deserves. Ironically, the guy on the Caps' roster that should be sending the message is sitting out due to his own suspension.

Clearly you didn't see the first two games of the Blackhawks/Canucks series. Those refs suck, making ridiculous calls or completely missing blatantly obvious calls.

This game had all that plus a ref taking a clear undisputed tying goal away from the Wings in the last minute. It was not even arguable. As far as calls the game winning goal came on a non penalty and missed slash on Osgood as the goal was scored. So you can easily argue that Anaheim's game winning goal wasn't legitimate. The fact is the officiating in the last two games has sucked. 70 minutes, no Power plays for the Wings Sunday, and last night the power plays were even despite the fact that Anaheim was initiating extracurricular stuff all the time. The NHL officially sucks, 10:30 start times for pathetic displays like that.:rollno:

Holy cow.....my heart just sank for Marian Hossa. What an amazing effort, only to be wasted by a ref with a quick whistle. I've seen more than a few of those quick whistles in the Flyers/Pens series, so I'm used to it now. Wow, what a huge bummer though.

On another note....what was with all the fighting by the Red Wings after the final buzzer? I don't follow them like you serious RW fans, but from what I know, they don't fight like that. I know for sure Z isn't a fighter and I saw him on the ice poking and punching at guys. They seriously need to calm down and keep their cool or Anaheim is going to take this series, which I do NOT want to see happen.

The ref made a really bad call that was a goal he called it too early because he "didn't see it"
OUTRAGE!!!
That ref is gonna die

Right. I've heard it said several times during the broadcasts that the league office in Toronto has instructed all refs to blow that whistle immediately when they lose sight of the puck.

I don't think this is poor officiating, they are only following instructions from their boss.

I think the Ducks may actually win that series. They are really hot, and I'm not sure if there's anyone who can stop them. If anyone can it has to be Detroit, IMO. If they win against Detroit, I wouldn't be surprised if they win the Stanley Cup. Boston is really good, but there's just something about the Ducks and their hot streak. When they beat the Sharks I just contributed it to the Sharks lousy playing, at the end of the regular season they did not play like a #1 team.

Maybe San Jose wasn't as bad as everyone thought. :rollno: Last night it seemed like Detroit was just trying to keep up with Anaheim. If the Wings don't win tomorrow night, I predict the Ducks to win in 6 games or less. I hope I'm wrong though. The last thing I wanted to see is the Ducks going to the finals.

The Wings have not showed up in the first period of any game in this series. About game 3 - first, huge props to Hiller, and to the Duck's penalty kill. However.... that no goal was one of, if not THE most egregious bad early whistle I've seen in over 30 years of watching hockey. Mike - I understand the directive, BUT... there were quite a few cases in that game where Ozzie had the puck covered and the ref couldn't see the puck unless he had x-ray goggles and the Ducks were allowed to poke away for a few seconds in each case. That was the kind of ticky-tack bs that costs series. Heck, even Hiller admitted the whistle was way early.

I'm seeing a LOT of parallels to the 2007 Wings/Ducks series - Wings #2 Dman is injured (Rafalski is SORELY missed, and, imho, so is Lilja), and pathetic officiating costs them. Chris Pronger has zero PIM thus far (and he was voted the dirtiest player in the league by his peers this season). Heck, him having less PIM than Lidstrom is very telling.

Hossa and Datsyuk have not been attacking effectively, not driving to the net nearly enough. Chris Osgood is NOT the problem. I still think the Wings can pull this out, but if the Ducks win this series, just like 2007, though they don't deserve the cup, they'll win it. The Wings have controlled the game through the majority of the series, but gave up early goals that cost them.

Game 2, the call on Stuart was a joke - no contact was made, and the NBC replay clearly showed it.

The Sharks weren't a bad team. They have too many players who just don't show up for the playoffs. I'm betting they blow up the core of that team in the offseason.

The reffing this season has been atrocious, but this series by far is the worst. The Ducks have been given a license to play dirty, and they're taking it. Mike, the after the game stuff was the Ducks going after the Wings with cheap shots and the Wings defending themselves. If you watch replays, Pronger clearly tried to get Datsyuk. Also telling is that Babcock actually said the Wings were "hosed" in his postgame comments. He NEVER makes a direct comment about the bad calls.

Here's my obligatory Crosby comment - his whining about the hats on the ice was ridiculous and low class. If it was in Pittsburgh, he'd have had ZERO problem with it. Sid is a very talented player, and he's had the unfair labeling as the face of the NHL, but he needs to deal with it. Geno shows up and plays. Sid would do well to follow that example imho.

Finally, am I the only one who would love to see a coach or player, in response to the moron Versus commentator on the bench after being asked a ridiculously stupid question such as: "You've given up two power play goals in the first. Do you think penalties are costing your team tonight?", respond with "What the #$@& do YOU think?"

Xym....I know what you mean about the Ducks playing rough, but I have never seen the RW's get like that in return. Especially when the game is over. They normally keep their cool and go out and score a few goals for their payback on teams trying to get under their skin.

Yes, I also am tired of the on the field, in this case ice, interviews. Ridiculous.
