NHL PLayoffs 2009

I love my wings but with Osgood's performance this year we'll likely exit in the next round. Playoff hockey is a different type of hockey than the regular season.
The Wings are one of those teams that has a switch they can just turn on come playoff time. Not that they struggled during the regular season, but it seems like they just have an extra gear for the playoffs that other teams don't. Osgood looked pretty good last night, especially during the 1st period. I think they will win the west.

I dunno...The Flyers played a real good game, then made two quick mistakes that put them down by two men in OT. That's gotta hurt.

I missed the game, but it sounded like the slashing call was a fluke. Stick made contact with stick just a little too hard and one of them broke....they have to call it.

I wish the league would rethink that rule or do something about these graphite sticks that shatter if you sneeze on them. I'm all about harder shots creating more goals but how is a player supposed score if he has no confidence in his stick holding up.

The slash was real, it was a bone head rookie move. The fact that the stick broke forcing the call doesn't mean it wasn't.

How about Hartnell throwing his stick to disrupt and one timer from the slot and getting away with it.

The Pens look strong.

Again I missed the game and hadn't seen any highlights (or lowlights). I'm not saying that it shouldn't have been called....I just think that these graphite sticks leave a lot of room for improvement. If Hartnell threw his stick....it's a penalty. If he caught a break then good. They are few and far between for the Flyers.

I agree,, I just don't this a great example of where they show the weakness. I know first hand how much of a chop downward across the shaft it takes to break one...quite a bit. Of coarse in my experiences I care about the cost of replacing the stick more than a penalty.

How the effect the game on the pro level?

It's the catastrophic failure during the shot that drives me nuts....

IE Point Slapper.....Failure.....Breakaway going the other way.

Agreed. From Giroux's explanation he made it sound like it was blade on blade and someone's stick broke.

In actuality I have no room to say anything since I didn't see the game. I did see postgame reaction and seems that the Flyers thought they did a lot of good things and taking the loss was a tough pill to swallow.

Wings take care of business at home to lead in the series 2-0. Osgood gets his 14th career playoff shutout today to move him into fourth all time in career playoff shutouts. Wings win 4-0, if the Bluejackets don't play more disciplined ( I suspect they will at home) this will be a short series. Datsyk and Zetinberg were sick tonight. I still think Datsyk should (but he won't ) win the Hart. There is no better two way player in the game.

I'm surprised at how well the Red Wings are doing against the Blue Jackets. If there was one team I didn't want to play in the first round it was Columbus. We split the season series 3-3 and it seems that they play us better than they play any other team. I usually cringe every time I see Rick Nash get the puck in our zone since that man has some skills, but I'm glad that we're playing as well as we are. I shouldn't speak too soon though. We still need two more wins and we're in Columbus next.
