The Penguins are all but cooked now. I'm trying to keep it in perspective considering I wasn't even expecting them to crack 80 points this year, but it's still hard to take.

I've been a Pens fan for all my life, but for some reason, I've dug the Sharks since they came into the NHL. I can't be disappointed in the Pens' season. They got some great rookies comin' up, Sid proved that he ain't a flash in the pan, and oh yeah, the new arena!
I really liked the Pens' chances, though. They came in a little flat, expecting momentum to carry through to the playoffs. Once it swung the other way, it was too hard to get going again.
As a rampaging Sens fan I've got to say that you guys had me a little nervous before the series started. I figured my boys had the edge (especially on D) but your crew of youngsters can do some amazing things, and you can't ever count Crosby out of a game. With our history of blowing leads late, I wasn't quite sure how things would play out.
Here's to hoping we won't face you in the first round next year. As soon as you get better on D you'll be a force.

Unfortunately, I don't see many of Pittsburgh's younger D-men actually getting better. Melichar can't even corral a pass, and Scuderi has scored several goals for opposing teams this year. Eaton and Orpik are the only guys I really like on the defensive end - Gonchar is a good point man on the PP, but that's basically it. The defense will have to be completely re-tooled if it's going to improve by much. Hopefully Shero makes some good acquisitions in the offseason.
The Senator's defense had me green with envy during the series. I'm not sure if they're really that good, or if they just look good in comparison to the Pens.
In an interesting aside, Crosby just revealed that he played the last few weeks of the season with a broken foot. Hockey players are nuts.
It very well could be. We'll have to see what sort of actions the league will take in the morning, or at some point tomorrow. I freely admit that I'm a Wings fan, so my judgement on what happened today may come across as a bit biased, but come on, now... The Calgary team that was hanging around for the last five or so minutes of the game is a complete and utter embarassment to the sport.
More than anything, I feel sorry for the fans of that team. A good, hard-fought series is a wonderful thing. Yes, you want to win. No, you don't want to get blown out. If it was the Wings getting blown out, I'd be yelling every swear word I could think of at the t.v., and thinking all sorts of nasty things, sure... but I would be truly ashamed to be their fan if they acted the way that Calgary did.
I believe that they are a better organization than what they showed themselves to be, this afternoon. Sending your backup goalie in to do some beer-league cheapshot junk does you and your fans a great disservice.

I remmeber back when Probert would ravage anyone who even looked at Yzerman the wrong way. We need more of that. The NHL today is made up of a bunch of sissies.
Another series that has been incredible to watch is the Dallas Vancouver one. It's been a battle between two phenomenal goalies so far. Marty Turco is looking to shake the playoff-choker label that has been placed on him and Roberto Luongo is looking to prove he's as good in the playoffs as in the regular season. For a couple teams that might not boast a line-up as powerful as a Detroit, Buffalo, etc, these two teams have played some great games. The 4 overtime thriller was a great way to kick off game 1
Even if Dallas loses this series, I think that Turco has finally shaken the playoff-choker label. I think that three shutouts will do that. The Stars have got to be in the Canucks' heads about now. They had them down 3-1, and now have to play a game 7 at home, where they have been vulnerable this year.
Luongo is amazing. The only reason Dallas is still alive is because Turco has been almost as amazing, and the Vancouver power play has been nonexistent.

That they did! Plus you just could not possibly write a better ending to that series! Playfair sends his backup goaltender in to goon things up, and takes a totally reprehensible slash on Johan Franzen... and who ends their season??? The guy they hit!!

There is a big difference between physical play and dirty play. A nice hit once in a while, or a decent fight between two guys who wanna go to war...that's great.
Bertuzzi style stuff isn't so great.
I'm still not used to the "new" NHL. It's so...bland. You can only watch so many 12 goal games before you don't care.

Just because we had few high scoring games, so what, we had them before so called "change". I don't see whole lot change that you guys are complaining about. Whats wrong with removing a 2 lane pass and speeding the game up? Sharks by themselves had 11 shutouts this year... I mean sure i understand some complains about change, but Christ, every time there is a NHL thread someone (usually BB) comes in just to let everyone know how much NHL sucks... It's getting old and annoying. We get it.

Absolutely. Though personally I always thought the playoff choker label was pretty unfair to begin with. Dallas hasn't played all that well in front of him for the past couple seasons. Granted Turco hasn't played incredibly well like he has this year, but still.
It's the same in my opinion with Datsyuk. He was a rookie with limited ice time early on. Last season he was coming off an injury and despite the lack of points, was getting good shots off. Also pretty much nobody else on Detroit put up good numbers the past 3 playoffs either.
Looks like both players are proving their doubters wrong this year
