Considering the injuries Vancouver incurred in game one and the way they played game 2 the Stars have the edge at this point that first goal Vancouver let in last night was pretty sloppy.

YAY!!! YAY!!!! YAY!!!!
When I was in Pittsburgh a couple months ago, everyone was deep in Crosby mania. It looks like they still are. When I called my uncle today, we talked about the Pens for almost 45 minutes before anything about the Steelers was even mentioned.

Very true, Mike. The Pittsburgh faithful are absolutely enamored with the Penguins right now. There's definitely the feeling around these parts that we are on the brink of something special, regardless of how the Pens do in the playoffs right now. Sometimes it's hard to remember that this team wasn't even supposed to make it to the post-season at all this year.
It seems to me that Crosby is on the verge of becoming one of those transcendent athletes that I'll be telling my grandkids about. That's a special thing.
Well, I've been watching a lot of hockey, and there's been some great games. It was tough watching Buffalo lose last night due to a powerplay that I felt the Islanders shouldn't have received. One of my bosses is a huge Sabres fan, and he's a good guy, so I try to support his team, but I'm sure he'll be in a bad mood tomorrow.
Pittsburgh's loss was equally tough for me to watch. I have family in Pittsburgh, and I spent a few years of my youth there... back when Lemieux and Jagr were tearing things up. We'll see how they rebound from this one, and I hope it goes well for 'em.
I thought Detroit put in another great outing. The Flames were in hot water in the first, and I thought it might go on to be another total domination for my boys, but they picked things up a bit, and I felt this win was more "workman-like." Thought Detroit has outshot Calgary by nearly a 3-to-1 margin, I still saw at least a little flicker in the flames, today. I'd love to see a sweep of the series, but the Flames are bafflingly inconsistent this year, and the Saddle Dome will be a tough place to play... I'd be happy with a split, and we'll finish 'em off at The Joe.
San Jose and Nashville last night was some mighty entertaining hockey. With Count Trotzula crying to the press, and Wilson handing out some tissues, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night's game!

Just when I thought Pittsburgh would put together a dominating effort at home, they lay a dud. The penalty kill has been really good, but the team's 5 on 5 defense is still a huge issue. Some players other than Crosby, Roberts, and Staal have to find a way to step it up, or Ottawa is going to continue to roll.
Detroit is really looking to shake off their stigma of the past few playoffs. Though Calgary has been pretty inconsistent to finish out the season (nearly missing the playoffs if Colorado had hung on against Nashville), they are still a strong home team, and with Kipper in net can steal a game.
IN any sense, Detroit nearly has 100 shots to Calgary's 30 in 2 games so far
Datsyuk has scored twice already and Detroit has shown physicality I don't think anybody knew they could play with. I'm really happy with the Wings play so far.
Another series that has been incredible to watch is the Dallas Vancouver one. It's been a battle between two phenomenal goalies so far. Marty Turco is looking to shake the playoff-choker label that has been placed on him and Roberto Luongo is looking to prove he's as good in the playoffs as in the regular season. For a couple teams that might not boast a line-up as powerful as a Detroit, Buffalo, etc, these two teams have played some great games. The 4 overtime thriller was a great way to kick off game 1
I'm sad Minnesota is down 3-0 now. I really thought they had a good chance to upset Anaheim, but they just aren't getting it done. Rolston, Demitra, the big guys who aren't named Gaborik aren't scoring.

If they want to have a chance , those players really have to crank it up a notch or two. The pens don't have the depth of the Sens.....

Dom, for as much of a nut as he can be from time to time, gives us the edge we didn't have. Legace took a lot of the scapegoating, but even when you watch the team play, you can see the difference... last year we were on our heels a bit. This year, we're playing far more confidently.
We're getting great additions from every line, and the only player we've got that I wish we didn't this year is Lang. Six turnovers in game 1 was a bit much. Lazy penalties, turnovers, lack of offense.... we should bench him a couple games and see how he comes out afterwards. Granted, Lang showed up during last year's playoffs, but this year we just don't need him as badly. When Bert steps back into the lineup, sit Lang, and put Hudler on the line... the little guy's worked hard all season, and deserves the spot!
Well my guess is Lang is gone after the season anyway. His contract is up, and unless he wants to take a big paycut to stay in Detroit, I can see him testing the market. Detroit doesn't really need him, and I can see a team making him a good offer to be a #1/#2 Center.
Detroit has an abundance of centers as is. Keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg at 1/2. Even if they need to play on the same line Detroit has enough guys to fill in 2/3/4 line center positions.
I'd much rather see Holland spend the money to keep Kyle Calder around before Lang.
I agree completely. Calder was a great addition. I'd love to see him with the winged wheel next year, too.
Did anybody else enjoy watching the Grand Rapids line in the regular season as much as I did? They brought a lot of energy, and really looked like they were loving every minute of ice time they had.
Very true. The Senators are getting production from 4th-liners and defensemen in this series...the Pens are basically relying on 3 players for their offense. Malkin in particular really has to step up his game and stop taking foolish penalties. Christensen has absolutely disappeared as well, after closing the season with some strong play.
Out of all the series, the Vancouver - Dallas one is the closest by far.

I live in Nova Scotia, the same province Crosby played his minor hockey in and I was able to play against him when I played for the Sackville Flyers and he played for the Cole Harbour Wings. It was Bantam AAA level (15 year olds) and I was 15, he was 13 at the time. Both our teams were in the same division so I got to play against him about 5 or 6 times that year including tournaments and such. Its pretty neat looking back then that I played against the future phenom he is now. I was a defensemen and im proud to say he never got passed me once, but he did slash me across the back to the leg when I stopped him one time

Yes, that was a crushing blow. He's out for game four with a "headache." It could have been a lot worse - I'm glad he seems to be doing okay.
