Sorry, that's not correct any more. It is now top 4 scorers on the Leafs are the top 4 scorers in the league....
Yup. Phil is a great player, and deserved much better than what happened in Toronto. He has earned his 2 rings, and should have a Conn Smythe to boot.
Ho! Ho! Ho! Go Leafs Go! That is Mrs. GLG and my favorite Christmas carol! Think I have posted pictures of our Christmas tree on these sites before, the angel (in a Leaf jersey) is holding the cup. Hey, if you can believe in angels you can beleaf the blue and white will win the cup! And since this is a music site, Helix (the band who did that song) were a very good local band in the late 70's - 80's. Always enjoyed seeing them. And.... Ho Ho Ho! Go Leafs Go! Interestingly most folks on the Wings board I frequent had Hronek pegged as the most likely D to make the jump to the NHL prior to preseason. Sulak impressed me but he still seems a little uncomfortable (I think he needs to just adjust to the larger size crowds and communicate more on the ice). There was a great article on The Athletic about Cholowski this summer that raised my expectations about him from outside shot to really hoping he makes it. Speaking of the Athletic, it is well worth the subscription. Craig Custance and Max Bultman do a great job with the Wings coverage plus a lot of the top writers from every market went there (like Shinzawa from Boston, Portzline from Columbus,Sean McIndoe, aka DownGoesBrown).
Well Mike (MJ5150), I hope you watched the Golden Knights at the Flyers today. You love low-scoring games. This one was 0-0 until there was just over a minute and a half left in the 3rd. Fleury and Elliot were both very strong in net, but Fleury was outstanding. He was great the whole game, but the last save on a shot by Giroux with the Flyers goalie pulled was amazing. Give those 2 points to Fleury, for sure.

I got to see most of it since they moved up the start time for the Sox. Pastrnak was great but the Wings were giving him too much space. That Bergeron line is really something else though; so lucky to have them together.
Pens lose Justin Schultz for who knows how long. DeSmith played well except for a 7 or 8 minute span to start the second, as they lose to Montreal (and Antti Niemi?!?) in a shootout...second loss to the Habs in a week.
Are the Canadiens better than expected? Or is it just the Penguins are NOT better than expected?
Sucks for the Canadiens rookie who had his first NHL goal reversed but Sullivan made the right move by contesting it...Shaw definitely made contact with the goalie.
And in unrelated news...Toronto is a helluva lot of fun to watch.

How fitting that Niemi was in goal for Montreal as they took care of the Pens.
Now that Schultz is down for a long time, that injury is gruesome, it's going to be more of the 7-4 and 6-2 type losses for the Pens.

I don't doubt those scores, especially with the way Maatta and Johnson cough up the puck numerous times per game. Schultz, while never a defensive stalwart, at least was decent in his own end and didn't scare us. Riikola is full of potential but he's still learning the NHL game positionally. And the goalie situation being somewhat up in the air, it appears it's gonna be a long and uneventful season in the 'burgh. Hoping I'm wrong, but logic at this point says I'm not.

Yep on Maatta. Did you see they put Riikola with Maatta after breaking up the Riikola/Oleksiak pairing? Oleksiak didn't even play Saturday against Montreal, healthy scratch.
I have no idea why Sullivan is so infatuated with Maatta, and why you leave a giant like Oleksiak on the bench. But hey, Sullivan rarely played Reaves too. Maybe Sullivan has something against big tall guys.
Hey @Jeff K, I did not see the Vegas/Philly game. You are spot on though, that is my kind of game.
Speaking of Fleury, I'd love him still even if he signed with the crummy Flyers.

Seriously, whenever a player I like ends up in Philly (or NYR or Washington), I try to deal with it the best I can. And hope they're traded away quickly! LOL
Forsberg was one of my all-time favorite players. But man it was hard seeing him wearing orange. I hated Tocchet in the beginning of his career, but loved him the minute he landed in Pittsburgh, LA, and of course, Arizona. Seeing him end his career back in Philly felt like betrayal! When Shane Doan was a FA and the Flyers had interest, that would have been torture if he signed with them.
On the other hand, there have been other players that started in Phi-town, that I've grown to admire a lot once they left. Jeff Carter, Kimmo Timonen, Brayden Schenn... the list goes on. Shoot, I might even like Claude Giroux if he ever left that team! (No, not really. Still loathe that a-hole!
) I guess that's what rivalries are about.

Timonen is one of my favorite all time players.
He was the master of the short handed goal.

Yeah, big fan of the guy no matter where he played.
I just watched the Blackhawks 2014-15 SC run on NHL Network recently. That was so special when Toews hoisted the Cup, then called Kimmo over, and he was the first guy he handed the Cup to. Especially with the health issues he'd had and wasn't sure he could even play again, let alone contribute to a Cup-winning team.

Ha ha! Actually, I've always liked Fleury too. Even when he was with those disgusting Pens...
