He is by far the best hockey player I have ever seen play the game. And that is coming from a life long fan who never liked the Bruins. And a real class act. So sad his career was so short, medical treatment for knee injuries back then was really just one step up from a butcher job.

Yesterday Arizona announced all pro sports can re-open this Friday. The Yotes responded with a droll one-line statement, saying basically 'we are aware of the governor's announcement but we will fall in line with the NHL guidelines.' Hmm. Not exactly an inspiring response...they could have tried to be a little more enthusiastic about it. :sour:

I'm liking watching many of the Classic games on the NHL Network and NBCSN, but c'mon, let's find a few others to re-broadcast. Seems like every couple of days the Winter Classic between Washington & Chicago is on again. And again. And again...

But I do appreciate seeing those Oilers and Canadiens from the 70s/80s. I remember those teams as being so fast with high-flying offenses, but watching them today they look about a pace or two slower than today's game.

I'm very surprised how well I've been getting along without sports. Much better than I anticipated, especially when I am used to watching hockey practically every night via Center Ice and watching soccer all morning long on Saturdays & Sundays.

The interesting thing this past weekend was watching the Bundesliga (German soccer league) resume play, albeit in empty stadiums. Kind of surreal. One interesting thing was you could hear the players communicate with each other during the match with no crowd noise. Of course, it would have been more interesting if I could understand German. :smug:

Just made me wonder if and when the NHL returns and plays in empty arenas...how that will look and feel. (Probably not much different for Panthers fans but still...)

I've been watching Bruins re-runs to get my hockey fix. Our local Bruins affiliate has a good mix of recent and old-school games from the Bobby Orr era on up through the present. I get a real kick out of how different the game was in the early 1970s, not to mention the hair styles, equipment, fans, rules. I used to watch this stuff religiously as a kid. Brings back fun memories staying up past midnight watching the Bruins on a west coast swing.

Speaking of Bobby Orr, I think that in his prime, he might be the only player I can think of who had the speed, skating ability, and stickhandling to compete well in today's hockey. It's like the game is in 1972 but Orr is playing in 2010.

Since gardening season in my area runs 1/1-12/31 and baseball doesn't seem to be in any hurry, I'll take whatever comes along.

Speaking of baseball...I am disgusted by those whiny multi-millionaire ingrates saying they shouldn't have to take a pro-rated salary for a shortened season, and then start crying how they're risking their lives by playing. Typical spoiled prima donnas.

Tell those gripes to the front-line workers who really are risking it all while making a helluva lot less than MLB players would make, even with an adjusted salary. :rage::thumbsdown::poop: (Rant over.)
