I'm glad youn'z are enjoying Fleury.
I count that as one of the dumbest moves Rutherford ever made. Still chaps my hide to think how they ran Fleury out of town in favor of that joker Glove Side High Murray.
Fleury will be one of my favorite players of all time. Right there with Jagr and Selanne.

It's a shame because Fleury likely doesn't have enough time before he retires for the Hawks to improve enough to be competitive in the playoffs.

Probably a half dozen teams right now trying to figure out how to aquire him to help them win Lord Stanley's trophy.

The goalie has to be your best defender, not your only.

Hey @GonePlaid, your Lightning picked up the highly touted dark horse of this year's trade season in Brandon Hagel. Every team in the league could use a young guy with his upside, and although TB paid a lot for him (two 1st rd picks and two prospects), he will contribute greatly to your next two Cups. :(

I was really hoping the Pens had something in place to snag him under the radar, especially with his affordable contract. Instead, we're still stuck with Jason Zucker's $5.5M salary and the meager handful of goals we get for that money. When he's NOT injured, that is. :rage:

Giroux to Florida in exchange for a bag of pucks. Well, actually for Owen Tippett (who didn't pan out for Florida), a conditional 1st rounder in 2024, and I can't remember what else. Additionally, the Flyers retain part (half???) of Giroux's salary, and threw in Bunnaman and another player.

Flyers got hosed, but for once I don't really blame Fletcher. His hands were basically tied. Reportedly, Giroux would only agree to going to Florida. Colorado reportedly offered a more aggressive deal, but the word seemed to be out that Florida was the only place he wanted to go.

I wish only the best for Giroux though. I hope he gets his Cup. He was a great asset for the Flyers for 15 years.

Now let's see if the Flyers can make any moves that will benefit them. Rumor is that they might move Sanheim. Big mistake IMO. He has been their best Defenseman. I'd move Provorov over Sanheim (if I had to move either of them). I'd like to see van Riemsdyk gone, but I don't think anybody wants any part of his contract.

Yeah, The Panthers seem to be serious this year. Hopefully Ekblad's injury won't be.

Too bad he wasn't a Flyer. Their players miss entire seasons without repercussions. They get Ryan Ellis. He plays about 5 games before going out for the season. Couturier is out for the season. A whole bunch of long-term injuries. (And their horrible season reflects it, although many people attribute the Flyers downfall to poor ownership/management.)

Well, to be fair, no NHL player had ever gotten that surgery before. Now two have. Maybe it will become commonplace like a Tommy John procedure.

Tippett would be on the NHL roster on most other teams, but Florida was already so deep that he couldn't crack into the lines they have set. I think he'll be a decent pickup once he gets steady playing time.

Allegedly, there weren't even any talks at all with Colorado, according to one insider. Florida was the only choice from the beginning.

Curious to see if Giroux signs with Fla, tests the FA market, or comes back to re-sign with Philly. I'm betting on the latter, FWIW.

Re: the 'bag of pucks' ...I remember how I felt when the Pens traded Jagr to the Caps way back when. We got three no-names, career AHL players for one of the best star players in the league. I feel your pain.

:D Yeah, I can imagine how it felt to lose a player like Jagr. I loved watching him, even when he was a Pen. :D

I watched the Flyers/Islanders yesterday. Not the best measuring stick, I grant you; but I did like what I saw with Tippett. He played hard, had a couple decent chances and made some nice passes. First game with a new team, so I'm sure he was fired up; but hoping he'll continue to develop into the player the Panthers hoped he'd be. And I hope the brutal Philly fans don't get down on him simply because he's "The Guy Who Replaced Giroux"...

I respectfully disagree. The Lightning surprised me with doing some unexpected yet very savvy moves, IMO. I'd already commented on the Hagel trade, and adding Nick Paul and Riley Nash give them some depth they lost over the summer. Paul is one of those guys that doesn't get onto the scoresheet much, but does a lot of those intangible things that help his team.

What Brisebois did here was very reminiscent of how Ken Holland would tweak his Red Wings roster back when they were winning Cups. Adding role players who played their respective roles perfectly enough to bring home the big trophy.

Obviously I'd love the Cup to come home to Western Pennsylvania this season, but I honestly think it will be somewhere in the state of Florida...just not sure which coast.

Yeah, I was referring to 'blockbuster' type moves. It's gonna be an interesting playoff season.

And DeBrusk is saying he still wants a trade despite signing a 2-yr extension. I'm guessing signing that was just to make it easier to move him so he wouldn't be a RFA with a higher qualifying offer.

Other non-trades? Subban and his $9.5M salary staying in Jersey. You know they would have LOVED to move him out of there.
And the Rangers did not move Georgiev...I thought for sure Edmonton, Toronto, or Minnesota would be all in for him. (Before the Wild landed Fleury.)
Kessell, Forsberg, and JT Miller all kept their current addresses.

And then there's Derick Brassard, who was traded. Now on his 10th team, 9th in the past 6 years. Can't figure him out. Put up respectable numbers in Columbus, NYR, and Ottawa. Since then, he's been nearly invisible. (Pit/Fla/Col/NYI/AZ/Phi, and now Edmonton.)
