NHL Season 2021-22

Sling always has a game on one of their nhl channels. Not tonight.
I almost had an episode and posted something in all caps.
Then I found the pens game on Hulu. So, all good now.
I'll still be mad at my wife for getting all these extra apps though,.... After the game.

Brian Boyle is one of those guys who you think has to be 100 years old. Seems like he's been playing forever. But every year he seems to be in BETTER shape and quicker than he was the previous year. Great player...

Wow, nice start for the under-manned Penguins! No Crosby, Malkin, or Guentzel, yet they still put up a half-dozen...on the road at the defending Cup champions' barn!

Not planning the parade route just yet but that was a result not too many Pens fans expected. :thumbsup:

And although I only watched about 10 minutes of it, it was nice to see the Kraken come back and make a close game of it before falling to VGK 4-3.

Well, the Leafs have their season opener tonight in what will likely be yet another year of frustration. It boggles my mind that the front office has such a short memory, of what happened during the playoffs last season. It became quite obvious to anyone watching that the Leafs are too small and too soft to go far in the playoffs. Sure, they'll be impressive during the regular season and likely be well positioned for the playoffs, but everyone knows (except leaf management) that size and toughness wins playoff games, of which the Leafs did nothing during the off season to address.
Talking heads have been discussing defence man Sandin as potentially taking a lead role on the power play as well as becoming a more important player for the team. Last time I checked, Sandin is still under 6 ft tall and was almost destroyed by Montreal's forwards. They obviously still don't get it.
So, I am looking forward to yet another season of "stupid Leafs" populating this thread.

I feel you on that @Fishheadjoe. The Pens front office went back and forth between being small and fast and big and physical. They kicked some good players to the curb trying to figure out how to score more goals. All it ended up doing was cleaning out the farm system and a series of first round playoff exits.
I give credit to Sullivan for sticking around through it all when he had to always change his coaching style.
Now that Rutherford is finally gone, perhaps Hextall will leave the roster alone long enough for Sullivan to get everything dialed in for a playoff run. After all, they're just about at the end of the road for the Crosby/Malkin era, Letang too.

If it's any consolation, the Flyers haven't done anything since the '70s. They GOT to the finals, but couldn't close the deal.

They made some moves in the off-season to presumably shore up their sorry defensive corps. Added Ryan Ellis, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Keith Yandle. I've only had a chance to watch one of their preseason games, and I was decidedly underwhelmed. None of them showed me a whole lot; although admittedly it was only one (preseason) game. Probably another season of mediocrity upcoming...

Yep, insert the word 'Penguins' in place of 'Leafs' in that first paragraph and same thing applies, too. Just not tough enough to counter playoff physicality.

And @Jeff K, at least your team went out and made some changes. We basically stood by and exchanged a few third/fourth liners, all lateral moves at best.

The Leafs are an original six team and play in what could arguably be called hockey mecca. No matter what the Blue Jays, Raptors or any other major league team accomplishes, in this town, hockey is number one. To have the degree of futility that the Leafs have had over almost 60 years, is an embarrassment. And yes, I am a disgruntled Leaf fan, having never seen the Leafs raise the cup in my life time.

I can sympathize with you, to a degree. For us, 2016-2017 seems too long ago...I can't fathom what 0-since-1967 must feel like! But at least your stars and prospects are (potentially) on the upswing, not downward as ours are.

The Kracken played last night. I read about it in the paper. Looks like I have to learn a new sport to be a homer about. They scored 3 goals! They gave up 4. Oh, well. They are an expansion team. I doubt the NHL will let them make like Las Vegas as easily.

Had a band rehearsal Tuesday night, but heard the end of the Pens/Bolts game on Sirius/XM. Not pleased. Hate to lose some of the people we lost. Not a lotta confidence in a 3peat. We'll see. It's a(hopefully)long season.

It's all good buddy. I watched most of the game and didn't see anything from Tampa that concerned me. Really, the game was 3-2 or maybe 4-2. Three empty net goals in that six for the Pens.
That's a really long season when you win the SC, and even though there has been a break, it wasn't the same break the Pens and the other 30 NHL teams had.
Besides, as we know, it isn't how you start the season but rather how you finish.
