NHL Season 2021-22

How do you all feel about Ovechkin possibly breaking Gretzky's goal record?

For me, I hope he does not. Not a Canadian vs Russian thing, not a generational thing, just my sentiments that Gretzky was the greatest ambassador for any sport ever. Always classy, never boastful nor brash, just as humble and unselfish as one could possibly be, and always would deflect praise to his teammates while shattering all the old scoring records. Keeping his name at the top would seem fitting.

Ovi has mellowed out some with maturity, but my perception of him through the years was him being a 'me first' kind of guy. Granted, with his shooting ability I don't expect him to pass the puck as much, but he always came across as selfish to me. Nowadays he is saying all the right things but it's still hard for me to root for the guy. Just my two cents.

Not a bad start to the season. Habs came out flying, but Campbell was up to the task. Habs seem to really miss Weber's (illegal) front of net crosschecks. Will have to wait and see how serious the league is about cleaning that up. Leafs have to learn to shoot a bit straighter, quite a few went off the post or the crossbar. Anyway, looks like the parade is ON!

Even if Ovechkin scores 1000 goals, he will never be Gretzky, have Gretzky's legacy, or be remembered the way Gretzky was, is and always will be.
Not saying I'm a Gretzky or even a hockey fanatic and not an Ovechkin hater by any means. I just don't think him breaking a scoring record will change much about who is seen as the greatest hockey player of all time. I think it will take a loooong time before Gretzky fades from memory and is replaced. Even if some of his trading card stats are surpassed.

OK , I'll go with my predictions , so I can have a good laugh comes May :)

-Sens will make the playoff and will win the first round against Toronto
-Habs won't make it to the playoff , battling with O 'til the end
-Toronto will finish top east
-Colorado will finish top West ( I still got to find one of those Avs/Nordiques jersey )
-Avs for the cup against Islanders

I'm with you @dwm74 on Ovechkin. I don't think the guy who scores the most goals is the best player in the game. There's much more to it than that, and I think Gretzky embodies what those additional things are.

-Mike
Agreed. Gretzky's so soft spoken I could barely hear him during the intermission BS sessions last night on TNT.

Can't disagree with you on almost all of those, except the Sens winning the first round against Toronto.

I was going to make a few predictions myself earlier, such as the Coyotes will not be as horrible as everybody thinks they will, and might even finish above a team or two in the Pacific (Anaheim/Calgary/LA). Unfortunately it was then that I remembered they were now in the Central, and looking at that division, there's no way they'll be better than any of those teams. Cellar-dwellers for sure now. :(

If they could just show up for the first period, might be a pretty good team.
Ingvall giveth and Ingvall taketh away!
Yah, i have a gripe with Ingvall... the biggest guy on the team and he plays like Hamerstrom! The man could carry a dozen eggs in his pants and not break one during the course of a game. Sure, he's got some goals for the Leafs, but he has also cost them goals with his scaredy squirrel plays...

PS...
And Mrazek is out after the first game with a pulled groin.

Settle down in the recliner for the Flyers (home) opener against the Canucks. Thunderstorms around my area all evening. I lose the satellite signal several times in the 1st period. Missed Farabee's goal to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

About one minute left in the first period and boom. We lose power altogether for a few hours. (Not a rare occurrence here in the Memphis area.)

Power was restored about 15 minutes ago. I check the scores and see that the Flyers lost in a shootout. Vancouver only needed two rounds. Their first two shooters scored on Carter Hart while neither of the first two Flyers scored. Here we go again...
