Ted Williams was 42 when John Updike wrote the classic "Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu." I agree with zontar, Sid will always be The Kid.

In other vintage hockey player news - the Bruins signed 37-year old Bergeron to a 1-year team friendly 2.5M salary with 2.5M in performance incentives and 36-year old Krecji to 1-year 1M with 2M in incentives. The Bruins are better with these guys and certainly more fun to watch, whether they avoid a 1st round exit this year will depend on whether the younger guys get better (I think Swayman will in goal, but will DeBrusk be a legit #1 RW??) and the other stars (Marchand, McEvoy, Pastrnak, Hall) stay healthy.

And according to this, it was basically a done deal for at least a week. It's funny, all the NHL rumor sites were telling us all this time that Lamoriello was trying to move some players to get cap space when in fact it was Treliving.
Surprisingly, Kadri's contract is not front-loaded, which would make it easier to trade him as he gets into his late 30s when the contract is winding down. It's a straight $7M for each of the seven years.

If the salary cap goes up--which many feel it will--it may not matter as much.
So Tkachuk & Gaudreau> Kadri & Huberdeau, but when you throw Weegar into the mix?
Also depends in part in what draft pick the Habs get--and what, if anything comes back as future considerations (Something later to avoid salary cap impact)
Yzerman has put together a whole new Red Wings team. Same thing he did in Tampa. Very excited here in MI.
I like it. Rutherford was the one who has prevented the Pens from getting past the first round in recent years, not Sullivan.
Imagine trying to play in a touring band when the manager changed out your drummer, singer, and guitarist every so often. You'd never find a groove that was sustainable long enough to be great, but you'd probably stumble along well enough just based on the talent each of you had individually. That was what Sullivan had to deal with. Roster swings in extreme directions....we want to big and slow, no wait fast and small, rather fast and gritty, actually hold on, how about big and powerful. Oh, and there's this goalie that is probably really good so we'll dump the guy we already know is really good in favor of this guy who I think is going to be really good.
I'm actually surprised Sullivan didn't resign/quit/retire long ago.

Agreed...the past two seasons playoff bounces were due to goalie issues. Last year we had a third-stringer taking us into the seventh game (where we lost in OT), and the previous year our starter forgot how to stop a puck in the post-season. Can't hardly blame that on coaching.
And Sullivan keeping this team rolling through some injury crises these past few years shows he can win without relying on the superstars doing all the work. Glad the new ownership elected to stay the course instead of shaking things up.
