NHL Season 2023-24

Buttman's latest idea is that after 5 shooters, they bring fans of each team on the ice and they take turns shooting from centre ice at a plywood goalie with a small cutout in the 5 hole. Idea is to get fans more involved.I like it.
Sounds similar to the "Shoot the Puck" contest held during 2nd intermission (at least here). I'm all for it - anything beats a 12 round shootout. Hell, fashion a game of H-O-R-S-E or something patterned after the roundball variant. Have the captains rochambeau . . . or guess the number the head official is thinking. Have them do a Dance Dance Revolution showdown, in skates. ANYTHING but a 12 round shootout!
Or, yanno, we end in a tie. That's not the worst outcome in the world.

Wow. Down 5-0 in the third and came back to send it to OT...but where the hell were they for the first 2 periods? Was that close to turning it off and watching the Canada - USA womens game....
Dang! I forgot about that. Panthers were trailing Vancouver 2-0 when I wandered in here to the computer. I need to go see what else is on. That is, on my cable(I ain't paying for no ESPN+). OOPS! Make that 4-0.

That's different...Leafs don't normally play well against the bottom feeders...
I got a call from Malkin a few minutes ago. He was asking me if I knew what time the game in Toronto started tonight. He had Sullivan and Crosby in the car with him.

Stupid Pens?
It was really sad to watch Malkin when he was on the bench between shifts last night. He has been such a great player for so long, but now he just looks tired and very frustrated. Crosby still seems to have it, especially on the dot, his faceoff record is amazing. But he can't do it all by himself any more.
You're sure right about that. I think his shelf life expired a few years ago, and he's still in Pittsburgh for nostalgic reasons.
I always thought he needed to be a #1 center and have his own team. He certainly played along as a good teammate and second fiddle to Crosby, but the Pens missed a golden opportunity years ago to make that team much better by shipping him off somewhere so he could be his own superstar.
But alas, here we are with the 'big three' making Pen fans feel all warm and fuzzy about the good 'ol days. One day they'll all be gone, the Pens will be worse than they already are, and folks will be standing around asking how that happened.

So just watching the Sunday afternoon game between the Oshawa Generals and the Peterborough Petes and something occurred to me. The rink in Oshawa is at least as big and has way better TV lighting than the one the Coyotes are playing in. And not only that, it is FULL. Why on earth is Buttman insisting on keeping that team in rink that is not as good as a junior rink up here and has less fans in it? Not like Arizona is important fort TV ratings...
I wonder the same. The only two conclusions I came up with were pride and some kind of handshake deal with someone(s) that he's benefiting from by having a team in AZ.

He's more obsessed with keeping a team in AZ than Ahab was with getting vengeance on the whale. I no longer refer to them as the Coyotes but only as the AZ Bettmans. As you note Junior league teams play in better facilities to better crowds and any REAL professional sports league commissioner would be embarrassed to not only have such a situation but to support it's continued existence (it doesn't speak well of the NHL team owners, either). I feel genuinely bad for the guys that play for them.
How does Pasternak get a free ride on that hit from behind? Anybody else and it's multiple games.
