NHL Season 2023-24

The NHL had a fine opportunity in this upcoming Winter Classic to show some respect and bring attention to the old Seattle Metropolitans, the first American team to ever win the Stanley Cup in 1917. We're going back, way back before the NHL even existed, but the Montreal Canadiens who they beat did too.
Nope, they decided to jack up the jersey with some Kraken crap on it.

It's remotely possible the ownership group that came up with the $650 million for the expansion franchise fee might have had a small bit of input into the naming and logo choice. Just sayin'

I'm sure you're right. It's just unfortunate they missed a chance to show off the real history of pro hockey in Seattle.

I hate shootouts. Not big on the 3 on 3 either, at least make it 4 on 4 so it's kind of like hockey. I get the desire (no doubt with millions of dollars worth of market research behind it) to have a win/loss result and I also understand the need to resolve it quickly that the 3 on 3 can provide - it's just so gimmicky, IMO. But they uncorked that genie and can't get it back in so once the brief OT clock expires without a winner off to soccer-on-ice it is so that coveted 3rd point can be bestowed. There are so many positive rules changes that were introduced after the lockout that I really do like but the model for handling ties isn't among them.

I don't like the shootout either, or the 3-3. However, a 1-0 game is my favorite, and since I can't get them to play hockey the way I want them to I'll take the 1-0 however Bettman decides to deliver it to me.

Well this finally brings some more clarity to that situation. Perry was in the group of vets that one had to figure might be traded later in the season but, initially, I thought when he was a healthy scratch maybe someone had come calling to maybe backfill some injury or something. When it dragged on that perception obviously changed and the continued silence on the matter from the Hawks front office didn't help any. So with Athanasiou on IR (and I've yet to hear any guesstimates on a return date), Taylor Hall done for the year and now Perry gone they've peeled back an entire line of depth. An already young team just got a heck of a lot younger (and the D line is limping along as well). I don't know what he did off the ice but Perry had for sure been doing his job on the ice, with his absence the target on Bedard's jersey just got a little bigger.

I was at MLG for Al's first game back in T.O..We were sitting in the end reds and the non stop taunting was comical to say the least. The fans were laying it on pretty thick on poor Al. Gary didn't get much respect from the fans either.
Ok, I guess it's my turn...

This thing with the Hawks abruptly terminating Corey Perry's contract is bewildering.

The organization said that he engaged in "unacceptable behavior" but that it didn't involve any other players or their families, and that law enforcement wasn't involved.

The secrecy is very strange. The absence of any further details just means that speculation will run rampant.

I dunno, Perry releasing a statement that he was seeking help for issues with alcohol abuse (and mental health) and apologizing for his behavior paired with multiple reports from actual news orgs of him having a belligerent confrontation with a member of the Hawks staff paint a clear enough picture for me.

And/Or , the courts aren't implicated YET , this apologizing can sound like : " Please , don't sue ! "
