Nicest Fender I've seen

For example, I don't think for one minute that Foderas are better than Roscoes, Elricks, Stambaughs, Ken Lawrences, or any other coffee table top basses, but they have a market that pays what they charge. More power to Fodera and their customers!:D

And dont mention about their "kitschie-look" :rollno: :rollno::rollno::rollno::rollno::rollno::rollno: :rollno:

but seriously these basses have its customers and they will pay even their life for them :D I dont find them much usable for "clayton-style" bassplayers but for "technically pervesed" players they are only choice....:D

I agree with Dr. Cheese for me they have no sense for me...but for me its mainly because Iam lame player :D

The Ferrari reference was a sort of tongue-in-cheek thing. English humour. It was a "my Custom Shop built is better than your run-of-the-mill Fender" sort of comparison. Suppose it didn't work. This is all pointless -yes, I hate Fender as a company, I also think their production basses can be great (not all of them by any means, but some) and my favourite type of bass is a J. I just think they're laying it on a bit thick with the Rolls Royce of Fenders image, and using it to charge exorbitant prices, but that's fine if people want to buy them. The bottom line is that that bass in no way is worth the money UNLESS the buyer has one or all of the reasons I've mentioned, and getting the best bass for your money certainly isn't one of them, because many a good builder could do the same at 1/3 the price. The giveaway is that people keep saying "but it's Fender Custom Shop" like it was the best in the world. I think that just shows their marketing works. If you've got one basic product, but you can tweak it in many ways to make the customer think the cheapest can be worth 1/20th of the dearest, then your going to make money. If you're a Fender worshiopper, then I suppose it's the Holy Grail of basses, if you're not, then that is whatever sounds and plays the best TO YOU, be it Sad, or Low End, or whatever. Personally I'd put a Low End up against any Custom shop, but then we're going round in circles. Is the indicator knob on a Bugatti really worth $4000? It is if you worship Bugattis, but I bet you can get a good indicator knob for a lot less, and then have the same argument we've just had all over again. Let's just agree to disagree - I think Custom shop is overpriced, though nice, and many think it is worth the extra because it's CUSTOM SHOP!

ok but instead of CUSTOM SHOP we can put Lakland, Fodera NYC Empire (especially them....) Sadowsky, Lull...all of those brands....each brand has many worshipers which thinks its worth extra because its ****

and its strange but Iam very fender hater....but more Iam "hyped-brands" hater...let me know why f.e. Roger von Sadowsky has statement
"If you want pure Sadowsky without fancy top get Metro"....its half price, maybe i suspiciously reading between lines...but its make me think that there is 2K difference just only for "snobish" feeling or because those patriots whose "support hard working us economy instead of yellow market" simply pay i.t.. (and I read MANY of such "patriotic" opinions here at TB-I must say it very fine to have such love to its own country!!!!)...please lets stop this "nowhere-leading" discussion - everybody has own favorites and own dislikes.....

If you love Ford Mustangs and you have plenty of money, do you buy a regular production line Mustang, or do you get a Shelby Mustang built by Carroll Shelby's master mechanics with multiple performance improvements? I'll never have that kind of money, because Shelbys are very expensive compared to the regular production Mustangs, but if I did I'd buy a Shelby Mustang in a heartbeat. Most people, even if they can afford any Mustang they want, will go get one at the dealership. Does that mean there's something wrong with me? ;)

Fender offers everything from a $170 Squier Affinity bass to a "sky's the limit" maserbuilt. How can some of you you hate a company for offering something for everyone? And, why are some of you knocking both Fender for their Masterbuilt instruments and some of their customers for wanting something special?

Here's a Wilkins finish.

PinkJO5web.jpg

The Wilkins' finishes I've seen have been on their own makes, and they have been on flamed or quilted jobs. I don't think I could rock a pink one, but if someone offered me a Lak with a custom finish, I wouldn't turn it down! That is a fine looking bass, and the best looking pink bass I have ever seen.

If you seen a Lakland, Sadowsky, or Lull, you've seen a Wilkins finish. (Others, too.)

Squier FTW :hiding: :D

Meh. It's a nice bass but it's not a nice fender, If you get what I mean.

Here's an analogy; Say Ferrari tried to make a bentley style luxury estate car.
It'd be a nice car, a really nice car even, but It wouldn't be a nice ferrari.

Idk, that's just the way I feel about this one haha.

Did people completely miss this because ever since it I've been hearing alot of ferrari reference and no talk about my post lol

You should have used Porsche as the analogy. They make SUVS, and I guess they are nice?, but theyre not the best SUVs, and they're certainly not the best thing Porsche has to offer.

Guys, frankly I doubt that the price in USA will be even $6700. I believe it is closer to that amount (in euros) but in dollars (~5300) if not less. The dealer can put up the pricetag he wants (to this or that extend).

Our exclusive dealer/distributor sells Fender Marcus Miller V here for 4000$!!! You know its sreet price in US...

Another example:

Fender CS Jazz 64 NOS

US price:

Spanish price (same dealer): Invalid Link Removed

I hope you got the idea ;)

And vice verse - I bought my wick for $1550 brand new from Ukrainian dealer and U.S. it was sold at that time for 2,5k

Peace:)

Does anyone know, for sure, whether the Masterbuilt instruments are all built from the "ground up" or whether they are assembled (with care) like a Sadowsky? It seems to me there is nothing on the website which indicates either way other than that you can get one built from the ground up.

Well, a Masterbuild is a commisioned build, they don't do Masters for stock, so they are 100% to suit the customer, so ground up would be the only option, I'd expect.

SO DO I !

i think its fender origin discontiuing all perfect instruments....
I got another example next to FMT, its Big Apple Strat....It was Double humbucker strat, with Seymour duncan pups.
Its perfect - of course it wont play like classic strat but it got guts and still it got strato feeling...
instead of it they "developing" crap like Duff MacKagan sign....MIM...which cost more that its Japan specimen :D this company is great in some way but its something rotten in country of Fender...

I thought the CC's were all team builds, not seen a master like this before, I'd assume the body was cnc'd to standard Fender specs, as for the neck, the U shape isn't astandard Fender shape, so mabye a custom carve.
If this one guy builds 100 basses (note the spec says a limited run of 100) there is no way he is doing them by hand. CNC would be the only way to turn out that volume of instruments in a single "run" n top of all the other build issues. It seems then that they probably do, for the most part, use a process similar to Sadowsky / Lakland / Lull etc.

This is what I've been thinking, since I last posted, he can't e doing more than Sadowsky etc. Not at that rate.

I'd still be certain that custom orders are not CNC'd though.

another point of discussion is WHAT is difference between CNC and hand "shaping".
Whoever know anything about this problematic never would say that hand can give you better results in terms of efficiency, accuracy etc. but another question is if CNC is enough efficient when giving same amount of production like hand shaping-please try to avoid thought about "hand give wood more soul..."
Answer is definitely NO hand is not more accurate, efficient etc....more you produce then you put your expenses for CNC machines lower....so that gives me another though are really CNC produced instruments made from same quality material as hand produced Its just question....Then take in attention why somebody use CNC if it wont grow up EFFICIENCY of production???

For me CNC production is mass production - and then I am getting another thought - is there really to much high quality wood for CNC´ing???

Its something we can only speculating about...until boutique makers unveil their sources....which they never do because then we would simply count and find how much we pay just for "Head sign" :-D

It's the attitude of worship that annoys people, I think. And the fact that people get jumped on if they disagree. No one said it wasn't a nice bass, rather that Fender Custom shop is way overpriced unless you want to say "THIS IS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP" As I said, if it's worth it you, it's worth it to you, but, like eating truffles wrapped in gold leaf, the value is in the image and the conspicuous consumption, rather than in the thing itself. The way that article is written, I half expected the writer to say that someone from Custom shop comes round and gives you a BJ when you take delivery of the instrument. Take the decals off, and see if there's any difference in quality between it, and say a Valenti, or Sadowsky, any any other competent luthier who cares about his craft. Plus, people are allowed to have opinions, just as they are allowed to spend their money on what they like.

Well said.
