Nicest neck you've ever played

From the little bit of experience that I have had so far, I like the Ibanez soundgear necks, and the Ernie Ball Stingray's

While its a cheaper neck and sometime ithink it could sound better, I just can't get over the neck on my '96 Ibanez TR-505. It's a bit narrower then most 5er necks i have played on but it is the most comfy thing that i have ever grabbed to play.

my guitar player has this million year old fender P bass.
there's no longer finish on it from use, and the frets are worn down to almost nothing.
The action is perfect and it plays like BUTTAH.

needs a new nut and electronics, a fun summer project i think.

Best four string neck is the Gibby Victory without a doubt. My hands literally grew up playing that bass, and it fits like a glove. Best fiver neck is Bud LeCompte's profile. Thin, flatter radius board, all but plays itself. It's a super comfy neck.

One thing Gibson did NOT change about the Tobias bass was the neck. The adjective "pre-Gibson" adds no useful information, indicating only that some people consider Gibson's bad reputation more important than the actual instrument.

To the best of my knowledge, Mike Tobias's neck shape hasn't ever changed from his original design, making pre-Gibson, post-Gibson, and MTD necks all shaped alike. I agree this is a great shape, very comfortable and easy.

The neck profiles on the Gibsons I've played were all a bit chunkier front-to-back than my pre-Gibson. Not a big difference, but noticeable. OTOH, the finish has a very different feel. The thick gloss poly finish on the Tobias basses is extremely slick and fast when clean and dry, but not so great when your hands get really sweaty. The Gibsons have more of a satiny finish that feels good, but doesn't look as nice (to me). I'm not saying one neck is better than the other---that's personal preference---but IME, pre-Gibsons definitely have a different feel (and look, and sound) than the Gibson copies.

So what necks have seriously blown you away?

My Jerzy fretless six definitely has the best neck I've ever played. It has an asymmetrical profile like Tobias, but much faster and slimmer, and the satin poly finish is as close to frictionless as any in my experience. The flat 20" fingerboard radius helps too.

The back of the neck on my '64 jazz bass is practically black from wear and smooth as silk. It never has to be adjusted and is straight as a ruler. By far the sexiest, fastest neck I've ever played.

I once had an opportunity to play this one professional bassist's Fodera 5-string (I think it was an NYC) and the neck was like butter. The action was super low with no buzzing, the bass balanced beautifully, man, that was one sweet bass.

P Bass necks work just fine (I have long fingers...., so those skinny little necks just cramp me up).

I also love Rick necks.

This is making me think as I have had so many great playing basses but with what I have now, I would say:

4-string: Modulus VJ
5-string: Nordy VJ5

Still love my F-Bass necks though....tough one really. The Modulus Jazz neck though is the best jazz neck for me.
