Nick Campbell just blew my fing mind on this song.



As soon as I listened to this about 10 times I just thought "holy ****. I need to find an instructor/teacher and take lessons so I can play just like that."

I've never felt more motivated to play/learn since I've been playing for the past year.

I come from mainly rock / metal roots as far as my music taste, so this is very different than what I usually get into, but man I just had a shift in what direction I want to go.

Nick Campbell teaches. Took 2 lessons from him. Unless some guy is in a huge band, you can always approach them about lessons. I’ve done this numerous times with great results. They got to pay their bills too.

Al Di Meola learned to play with a meeting technique out of necessity because he had to be quiet in his little apartment as a child.

A couple of 3 years ago I had to be quiet and so I learned how to play with muting and my thumb and my first two fingers. Yanek Gwizdala recently put out a video on this technique. I don't have to be quiet anymore but I play mostly with this technique now. It's harder to play too many notes which is a fault of mine and depending on how much pressure on the palm, all sorts of interesting combinations can be used. Notes can be made to "swell" even. After the initial attack pull up a millisecond later in the note will seemingly swell. A short scale like a MusicMaster makes his technique easier. And if you grow your nails out just a tad -especially the thumbnail- and add a bit of reverb on there, it really makes for a cool sound.
