Respectfully, Nick is among the most talented bassists alive right now.

Calling what he’s doing on this song “not overly complicated” is seriously underselling the depth of technique and feel on display in this performance.

Every member of Pamplamoose is a world class musician.

I didn’t say he is no good. I am just saying it’s not complicated. I transcribed the song. It’s not hard to play. What makes it hard is to play it with the right feel and groove. That takes a lot of experience. So if you find it difficult or not also depends on your level of experience of course.

The OP made it seem unapproachable which is not, that’s why I tried to comfort him…:)

That’s precisely my point.

This is a video of a fairly simple song being performed by a world class band, and the bassist is still the standout talent in the group.

OP is quite right to be impressed.

This isn’t Dua Lipa: she’s the pop singer who wrote and recorded the original version of this song.

This is a band called Pamplamoose: a group of absolute monster LA session musicians.

You seem have missed the point of this thread.

The OP was inspired by a new bassist so much that he’d “never felt more motivated to play/learn since I've been playing for the past year”, which prompted him to ask the forum “what bassist & song blew your mind?”

You ignored that question entirely, and for some reason have decided to respond solely to downplay the musicianship that inspired the OP.

Not really. That's not what I said at all. I didn't downplay anything. Somehow you seem offended just because I say this is doable. I was just trying to help and even said I had a transcription. Placing players on a pedestal is fine, I have my heroes too and take them as an inspiration. But the OP made it seem like it's unreachable, which is not. It just takes experience and practice (and talent of course). That's the only thing I was trying to say.

As soon as I listened to this about 10 times I just thought "holy ****. I need to find an instructor/teacher and take lessons so I can play just like that."

I've never felt more motivated to play/learn since I've been playing for the past year.

I come from mainly rock / metal roots as far as my music taste, so this is very different than what I usually get into, but man I just had a shift in what direction I want to go.

The whole Pamplamoose catalogue is definitely worth a listen, Jack & Nataly are phenomenally talented as are the rest of the musicians they work with.

The drummer in this particularly video, Rob Humphreys, is one of the better session drummers in all of Los Angeles: for this kind of pocket/percussion heavy style, he’s probably the best I’ve ever personally worked with.

I’ve been primarily inspired by songwriting and production lately myself: the two most recent EP’s Machine has produced (Post Profit and unpeople respectively) have been pretty incredible on both fronts.

The most recent record I heard this year that made me go “godDAYUM” on the musicianship front was the new Night Verses album: the production on that album is fantastic as well.

Every time i plug in, i hit up their version of “Everybody Wants To Rule the World”. Natalie has been ill of late, and they dont venture much out of California, but i’d drop everything given the chance to see them locally.
