NIN/JA Tour

Great show on Saturday at Cricket!!! Had to laugh when Trent said "It wouldn't be a NIN concert unless something went wrong." His version was more colorful. I was going "uh oh, I think that the only sound is coming from the onstage monitors" and my wife said "How the hell do you know that?" It was just a guess, but something clipped. It's actually refreshing to see that Mr. Murphy attends other shows than mine....where he has this thing of loosening tubes.

I was glad to see that you got some time on the big screen monitor. Good luck with the tour.

Killer show in KC tonight JMJ. I couldn't help but notice the posse of folks on stage left. I take it the NIN donation drive is going well. How are you enjoying this tour compared to Lights in the Sky? Do you enjoy the more raw and free form setup, or being part of the spectacle that was the Lights in the Sky tour?

Also,

Where'd the fro go?

Whoa, looks like an inadvertent Vulcan gesture.

Thanks, glad you liked the show. Yeah, the fund drive is actually a wrap. We raised $850,000 in about 6 days. (This guy Eric needs a heart transplant, and is caught in some Michael Moore-style red tape: http://store.nin.com/helperic/. But we met our goal and are making a political statement and getting considerable publicity on this as well). So now, we just have to oblige all the kind fans with the backstage/sidestage treatment.

I think I like this show a bit better than LITS, from the subjective point of view, EXCEPT for the Ghosts "chamber orchestra" section, which is now missing from our set list. This time it's about rock, a small down tempo section, and lots of rarities and frequently changed setlists.

Fro's been gone since Australia...summer cut! It'll be back, trust me.

Amazing (though cold!) show in Chicago last night! GREAT tone, both clean and distorted. Are your electric lines distorted for most of the set? If so, how much of that is the AG500 distortion channel, if any?

Also, Robin's distorted acoustic work was very, very cool sounding, and I think that particular tone (from the "And All That Could Have Been" pieces) was a welcome addition to the NIN palette!

Sad to hear this is the last tour, but you guys looked like you were having the best time of your lives up there, so go out on a high note!

Thank you, sir. AG500 is all clean, no distortion from it. My distorted tones are all from elsewhere. Yes, we had a GREAT time last night.

Saw you guys in Toronto, had a blast. Trent seemed pissed off throughout due to technical difficulties, and the crowd seemed generally weirded out by the TDS/B-sides heavy setlist. I jumped around the entire time... Really cool to finally hear those more obscure Downward Spiral tracks like The Becoming and I Do Not Want This.

Really impressed by how strong/intense you guys sounded even as a four piece. In the outro for The Becoming, for exemple, I didn't even realise Robin wasn't playing that palm-muted metal-ish guitar part that ponctuates the heavy double bassdrum action. I'm guessing that's either because it's too hard for Robin to scream/play at the same time, or maybe it didn't sound quite right with an acoustic guitar. Robin stops playing at the noisy keyboard part so you don't realise something's missing and it keeps building from there with just that bassline. Very clever and effective arrangement... you guys manage to make it sound so loud & heavy without a guitar part. Who deserves the credit ? Sound guy for adjusting the mix or you for that wicked bass distortion ? ;)

Was also quite surprised with Metal. Not a huge fan of it on record, but I just love those long electronic "jams". Felt a little like the Year Zero segment from the LITS tour, which, coupled with the Ghosts segment is my favourite part out of all NIN tours in history.

Overall, this new setup feels fresh and new. I've been a hardcore NIN fan since the Fragile days, and its really the first time ever I have NO IDEA what to expect next.

Leaving Montreal very early tomorrow for Camden/Holmdel/Wantagh. Can't wait to find out what other rarities might pop up in those sets! Fingers crossed for songs off of "Still" :hyper:

Cheers!

Hey thanks, peoples. Mighty kind. These shows have been great.

Ash512: Robin doesn't play that part because of how it sounds on acoustic, correct. Plus , we just felt compelled to arrange it differently. I'm not sure who deserves the credit for its effectiveness, but we all just came up with the approach. Glad you liked Metal, that's a fave of ours, especially since we haven't been pulling out as many YZ electronic jams like we did on LITS.

Thank you again, and enjoy! Glad you folks are digging the tour.
