NND: New Warmoth Wenge Neck for my Jazz

I have a parts MJT jazz bass that has always been my go to bass, but the USA Geddy neck on it was never quite perfect for me. I always loved the wenge necks on my old Warwick, so I figured why not. I also find 1.5” jazz necks too thin.

almost 8 weeks from the day I ordered it, this arrived and it is everything I had hoped for. Frets are impeccable and needed no filing or any work.

-wenge jazz neck
-1 5/8” but width
-Graphite stiffening rods
-vintage small frets
-normal contour (this thing is chunky!)

I'm thinking about ordering a Warmoth neck. Are you happy with your fret choice? Much difference from the Vintage Tall? I've always just taken whatever frets the neck came with. Honestly, not sure I'm good enough to tell the difference! Beautiful neck BTW.

I honestly don't pay attention much to frets either, but in my head smaller frets meant less chance of me pushing down on the string too hard and putting the note slightly out of tune. So I went with the small, and they play great!

I think it's my favorite neck wood.

hard to say since it's been 2 months since I've played the USA Geddy neck. The wenge neck definitely has more sustain without a doubt. Tonewise, I never bonded with the Geddy because it sounded bright and kinda brittle. The wenge seems to less harsh.

yes, at least a pound. But aside from the wood, I also went from 1.5" nut to 1 5/8" and it has a thicker profile too.

I want to have the fretboard rolled more on mine, also, the neck shaped to more of a C shape. Great, punchy low mid tone though

I did a similar swap on my 32" scale bass. Weight went down and physical balance improved. Tone shifted just a tiny bit.

I love small frets on basses. Not really sure about how I feel about them on guitar (great for soloing but my barre chords are bad enough to have them challenged by low frets

Warmoth is the best. I have a similar neck on a StingRay body. It is solid.

I've actually been considering the opposite mod of ordering a roasted maple neck to swap it out with! The wenge sure does feel nice under your hands though, eh?

That's a neck that I can love! Having played Warwicks in the past as well, I really appreciated the stability and tone of wenge. I had always wondered about trying a neck like this on my Jazz but ended up moving it on before I had a chance. Personally I would kept the 1.5" nut width but would have gone the normal contour as well. I like a thicker profile front to back.
