King Diamond/Mercyful Fate always brings back memories. My mother had absolutely no limitations as to what we could listen to growing up. She absolutely drew the line at Mercyful Fate. We were a non-religious household, but something about them (and no doubt their album covers!) freaked her out.
And my favorite rendition of a Christmas song. It's just. so. eighties!

I’m in a big band and we have a Christmas show tonight. A lot of the charts are pretty cool.
Christmas songs aren't that hard...unless you're talking "Sleigh Ride", then yeah.
I make charts for myself.
This is terrible advice. If you want to look like a total incompetent, be unprepared and make a lot of mistakes on tunes everyone in the audience knows.
I'm good with Christmas songs as long as they're not Mariah Carey.
That meme is gold. Gonna show that to the band on Saturday. We have to play it at a wedding. We almost got away with not having to play that damn song this year.

Play the songs, relax and make the audience happy. I've done holiday gigs, weddings etc. no one makes me take the job, but if I take it, I try to chill and collect my check.
I dunno, if you were Canadian you'd probably have to do a rendition of tracks from our male Mariah Carey....

We had to learn 13 X-Mas songs to mix into the December sets. Including Last Christmas "by The Beatles". I tell the band members that The Beatles NEVER did Last Christmas as it wasn't written until 1984 by George Michaels.
Our BL swears that this is The Beatles.

Back in my full time jobbing days Dec. was by far the busiest month of the year. We would play all of the Christmas tunes literally hundreds of times by the end of the month. It was also by far the most lucrative month of the year. Suck it up and have some fun.
Yeah...."Sleigh Ride" is the "Giant Steps" of Christmas songs.

A couple years ago I played a holiday gig and I actually had fun, because a) I’d never played one before, other than in grade school, and b) it was a challenge to learn a couple dozen songs in two or three rehearsals, and c) the money was good. I wouldn’t want a steady diet of holiday songs, but it was different, and I’d do it again,
It's kinda true that even if you're doing oldies, the Christmas songs will often be even oldie-er, often from the big band era. That was before the four-bar loop was invented...
