Just like collecting basses, you can get into these for very little money, but it can quickly spiral out of control if you're not mindful.

To be honest, you've already got an excellent stable of basses to cover everything.

I'd say forget about upcoming purchases! Focus on improving as a musician, as we can always improve no matter how much experience we have! Or perhaps a fun new effects pedal you've never tried before. I've got a Boss vocoder that is worlds of fun!

I see a lot of suggestions for P-bass, but for your collection, maybe a "really special" P-bass, something amazing without an amazing price tag is what I would want. But unless it really is special, I wouldn't see the need for getting a P-bass anytime soon. If it's meant to happen, the opportunity usually presents itself.

After an 8 year hiatus from buying basses i finally got the next one on my list. I currently have 4 basses and cant figure out what would be next.

I wont buy anything for at least a year but id love to hear some suggestions of what you guys think would be a cool next bass cause for the first time in years i have no clue.

My fender is my current player. The rics 10 years old and is semi retired. Its still in great shape and i want to keep it that way. The tbird is in a similar boat to the ric. Played at home but not out for the moment.

No gigs from the foreseeable future but lots of jams with friends.

Probably want to keep it under a 1000cdn.
Used it perfectly acceptable.

1 wierd rule i have about basses is no "cheap" lines... meaning no squires or epiphones unless there unique to that brand without a higher priced duplicate in the main fender or gibson line. No disrespect to those instruments it just bugs me when a brand feels the need to change the logo on the headstock cause it doesnt fit there image lol.View attachment 2834800

You could search the best bass for metal. But be aware, every one who tried failed so far entering hard once again in GAS

Why do you force a buy on yourself when you don't want any of it and you have two unusued basses ?

For the record all my basses get used. The ric and tbird are just for home use for now. After the newness of the jazz wears off the 3 electrics will rotate around going out again.

The acoustic is mostly for home use or camping. I usually only bring 1 bass to a jam and its just too big to comfortably play all night.

Also for those who say go play.... I play pretty much everyday, which is hard with a full time job, a 1 year old daughter, and a 100lbs rescue german shepeard mix who needs alot of attention. And yeah i have other hobbies too! Im into jeeps and video games.

I love having multiple basses. Gives me options. I will definetly add 2 or 3 more before im done. When i get old and the arthitis makes playing to difficilt ill either sell them or give them to my daughter of she takes up bass playing. Im only 30 so thats like 35 years away at least i hope!

I love coming home after work and seeing my basses on the wall. Gives me a sense of accomplishment.

You should check a Roasted P bass. Wilkins basses come in mine... but hey Im biased because I have one and love it.

Hofner Beatle bass, or another shorty hollow-body. If you prefer long scale, I think you might find a used Lakland Skyline HoBo (unless that violates your no-cheap-line policy).*

Frankly, another solid-body will not stand out in your current lineup. I'm a big fan of P basses, but in your case it will probably add little value in terms of diversity of tones.

* Maybe not, I just noticed your budget is 1000 CAD.

GAS is a parasite, not a syndrome, and is more appropriately labeled as GAP, like the giant gap in your soul from not having that next dream bass you just saw on sale...

When you have it, the symbiotic relationship makes you want more basses and rewards you for getting them. When you quit cold turkey, it reminds you of the joy you both experience when the UPS man drops off the package with your new bass. Then the terror begins.

Either a Fender Precision Bass or MusicMan Stingray. You'll have a huge variety of tone to choose from. Hard to find them under $1000CAD, even on the used market. But who knows? You could discover a lucky deal or private sale somewhere.

I have a fretless AEB that is pretty versatile. If you play your fretted much, you might try a fretless one in a store someplace if you get the chance. Apart from that, I'd say a p-bass would be a good direction to look. You might try a musicman, but if you haven't bought one yet, it''s probly not your thing... If you did look that direction, get a black one with a maple neck. I have always thought that looked sharp.

In my experience, a P bass has never offered variety, simply versatility. Regardless, still an excellent choice.

if you're leaning towards vintage classics yet want to be up to date I'd check into what Schecter has been pumping out lately with various P / J / PJ models and their CVs in 4 and 5 str., super strong looking sticks that sound incredible for well under 1K, even under $500!

Everyone should have at least 1 p-bass.

Everyone should have at least one p-bass with a rosewood board and another with a maple board, each with round strings, then another two of each with flatwounds. So, yeah, 4 precision minimum is about right.
