No GAS. Whats next?

For the record all my basses get used. The ric and tbird are just for home use for now. After the newness of the jazz wears off the 3 electrics will rotate around going out again.

The acoustic is mostly for home use or camping. I usually only bring 1 bass to a jam and its just too big to comfortably play all night.

Also for those who say go play.... I play pretty much everyday, which is hard with a full time job, a 1 year old daughter, and a 100lbs rescue german shepeard mix who needs alot of attention. And yeah i have other hobbies too! Im into jeeps and video games.

I love having multiple basses. Gives me options. I will definetly add 2 or 3 more before im done. When i get old and the arthitis makes playing to difficilt ill either sell them or give them to my daughter of she takes up bass playing. Im only 30 so thats like 35 years away at least i hope!

I love coming home after work and seeing my basses on the wall. Gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I'm around your age and I only have 3 basses, 3 basses that covers pretty much everything I want. I have an EBMM Sterling 4h, Warwick Thumb 6 and a fretless Carvin 6 strings with a piezo bridge which is very cool. I also have an Arturia minibrute synth. So I can do a lot.

GAS is just another manifestation of consumerism as the one true religion of modern times. Notice how if enough basses are perceived by someone, an alternative acquisition is suggested e.g. watches, motorcycles etc. I had to laugh when I read Oscar Wilde some years ago had said," there are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants and the other is getting it." After an 8 year hiatus from buying basses i finally got the next one on my list. I currently have 4 basses and cant figure out what would be next.

I wont buy anything for at least a year but id love to hear some suggestions of what you guys think would be a cool next bass cause for the first time in years i have no clue.

My fender is my current player. The rics 10 years old and is semi retired. Its still in great shape and i want to keep it that way. The tbird is in a similar boat to the ric. Played at home but not out for the moment.

No gigs from the foreseeable future but lots of jams with friends.

Probably want to keep it under a 1000cdn.
Used it perfectly acceptable.

1 wierd rule i have about basses is no "cheap" lines... meaning no squires or epiphones unless there unique to that brand without a higher priced duplicate in the main fender or gibson line. No disrespect to those instruments it just bugs me when a brand feels the need to change the logo on the headstock cause it doesnt fit there image lol.View attachment 2834800

Ok, I didn't read the whole thread but I'd throw the G&L name out there (apologies to those who may already have done so). I think you'd get some tones from a L2000 that your current stable doesn't give you.

Maybe it's time to build one yourself? Something rewarding in creating your own. You could go the parts bass route (Frankenbass), or craft your own body/neck/pickups/etc. or any combination thereof if you are so inclined. At the very least you'd probably accumulate lots of really cool tools this way...

I agree on the maple board but it would have been a fender usa at twice the price of my MIM



I keep my eye open for a good pbass. I have only played 1 i liked alot and its parked ar my buddies jam spot. Its on the list for looking at but probably not this round of buying.

You should be able to get a used one in your price range no problem.

AND a G&L L2000 AND I notice number of strings stops at 5! Oh my! Plus there is the whole world of fretless. My current main player is my G&L L2500 fretless..just saying. And there is the doubled string thing, the Stingray thing, the graphite neck thing... So many basses and so little time.

Guess I'm lucky. I'm totally content with 4 strings and frets and it being a P bass.

You need an amazing sea dwelling create, and suggest a Stingray. A used 5 string can be had around 1K and 4 strings for less.

You might want to check out the Made in Japan 1980’s Yamaha BB line (“Broad Bass”). I got turned on to them and they just flat out rule. Yamaha’s take on the neck through just kills. And the proprietary pickups have a fullness that is unique and cool.

Check out The Smiths / No Doubt bass tone - there it is.

I really dig them - they aren’t a clone of anything. They’re just their own thing. The 80’s MIJ Yamahas are becoming harder to find, but they have some serious Mojo.

My 2 cents is to play one first to see if it’s your thing. You’ll discover that the build quality is definitely top notch. And they just sound so cool. Red is passive ‘83 / White is active ‘86.

Yamaha has a brand new MIJ BB line that might be worth checking out too.

I pass GAS in between basses with lots and lots of effects. I recommend buying a 6-pack of compressors and test them all out. Then sell the ones you don't like in search of a good (fill in the blank). Repeat.
