No GAS. Whats next?

I have a Spector NS-2A that is really, really, really nice. In fact, until I recently got a Fodera and a Warrior, it was my nicest playing bass, and I have lots of nice ones. It's got 24 frets, neck-through construction, rosewood fingerboard, super light and comfy to play, wicked low smooth action, nice Schaller tuners, P/J pickups, totally usable tone controls with independent volumes for each pickup, did I mention the really comfy neck? The only down side is the pickups aren't the greatest pickups in the world. They are probably fine, but I'm a little spoiled now. In fact, I have just started contemplating replacing them with something fancy. Maybe active, maybe passive, haven't decided. Seems silly to invest $200 or $300 into a $700 bass when I have a wall covered with $4,000 basses, but this thing is just addictively nice. What got me thinking this way was that I am actually starting to go out on auditions and will (hopefully) start playing out again, and when and if I do, I'd love to have something that is both nice and cheap and "pre-dinged" so that I am not finding myself unable to enjoy chatting on breaks while wondering what is happening to my $4,000 bass over in the corner.

But if you can find a Spector NS-2A that is as nice as the one I luckily found on ebay about 10 years ago, you will be a happy camper!

So after reading thru this thread (thanks for playing everyone!) I have learned....

G&L or Music Man isnt totally out of the realm if I upped my budget by 2 or 300$ and had some patience...

Im intetested in fretless. Would need it to be lined though. And i have a feeling it wouldnt work for the jamming i do. Maybe im wrong? Maybe i should rent one and find out....

Try a Kala Uke bass.
I played one at a local store and loved it.
Bought it on the spot.
3 months in, still loving it.
Take it to work, play in my luch break. My work-mates dig it.
At home: Plug it in to my Benz Benz gear, sounds awesome.
Sounds like me playing a normal bass.
Go for it.

I have run out of GAS. Been working to reduce my gear inventory to what I actually use and need.
I am down to two basses, two amp heads, and four speaker cabs. I really really like each piece and use them all.
That is all I need and that is where it will stay.
NMGAS. (no more gear acquisition syndrome)

Maybe it's time to build one yourself? Something rewarding in creating your own. You could go the parts bass route (Frankenbass), or craft your own body/neck/pickups/etc. or any combination thereof if you are so inclined. At the very least you'd probably accumulate lots of really cool tools this way...

My fender is my current player. The rics 10 years old and is semi retired. Its still in great shape and i want to keep it that way. The tbird is in a similar boat to the ric. Played at home but not out for the moment.

No gigs from the foreseeable future but lots of jams with friends.

Probably want to keep it under a 1000cdn.
Used it perfectly acceptable.

1 wierd rule i have about basses is no "cheap" lines... meaning no squires or epiphones unless there unique to that brand without a higher priced duplicate in the main fender or gibson line. No disrespect to those instruments it just bugs me when a brand feels the need to change the logo on the headstock cause it doesnt fit there image lol.View attachment 2834800

I got an itch for one of those EBMM Caprice basses. Diamond blue or natural. Get one and post pics and review please.
