No Gibson's??

The fact that they only have three basses available in the 2015 model year isn't doing much for even us die-hard fans.

All that's on offer is a Thunderbird with last year's discontinued EB-4 electronics in it and a poorly shimmed Babicz bridge, a Les Paul Guitar with four short-scale bass strings on it and the never-ending "it's our only sub-$1000 offering" EB-0.

Basses are a tiny part of Gibson's business, but yeah, I didn't even bother discussing the current disappointing crop. I see there is a new model coming- a peculiarly named 4 string V Bass, which looks nothing like a Flying V. Suffering from the same wild overpricing by the looks as the 2015 TBird. We just shake our heads. At least we have the old ones.

Because Gibsons are extremely overpriced. You can get a much nicer bass for the same $$$$. Epiphones on the other hand can be pretty awesome.

Play a Gibson and you will find out why there aren't many posts. There is the bruised kneecap neck diving Thunderbird club and the severe shoulder problem RD Artist club which you will find if, you look hard enough.

The "V" I guess is for 5 strings. That might get confusing in the naming schema of it all... not even close to a V-Bass of 1980's past.

Interesting, link was working a moment ago.

Here is a pic of the 4 string, which had me puzzled about the name. Anyway, not something that I will buy. Now those ES335 Basses........

There is a forum member who does lovely TBird builds- he frequents the Thunderbird Club. Drop over there and check his stuff out, if you aren't already aware of him.
If I saw a nice flame top ES 335 bass, I would probably be a lot poorer.

To me, Gibson doesn't make stunning basses. I'm not even really a fan of their current guitar selection (or prices!!! So over the top!!!). I've never played a Gibson bass that I liked honestly.

Yeah a lot of name goes into that. My cousin has some really nice Gibsons, but the basses are not great.

I know. I could see 1200-1500 on the low to high side, but for what it really cost I would rather just get a pro iv and have something somewhat comparable for much less

That would be awesome. I've been infatuated with T birds for a while now.

I got my first Gibson bass last year, a Gibson EB, first Gibson I ever held in fact. Now I have several $4k+ basses, from boutique to vintage Fender, sitting in cases while I only play the Gibson. Even the material for which I "needed" a 5 or 6-string or active bass is being played on the 4-string passive Gibson whenever possible. I've even started to sell some of the basses I previously "needed". Thanks, Gibson!

Even in all the music shops i go to i never see any Gibson basses.

I see several in the four Guitar Centers I frequent...Thunderbirds in all four...and the new Gibson EB4. Not to mention the Epiphone T-birds.
I have my eye set on this one.

I m a rookie bassist, but it just struck me the other day, that there s barely a mention of Gibson basses on TB? In fact u hardly EVER see Gibson basses except with Gene Simmons and a very small handfull of others?
Why is this, i mean they make stunning guitars but u hardly ever hear or see Gibson basses? Looking forward to the answers!

Gibson basses are rubbish - even their expensive basses. With no other company have I picked up their key basses and thought "Wow, I hate this bass".

Go down to your local shop, pick up a Thunderbird or EB (even the expensive US versions) and get back to me.

Gibson basses = ugly, expensive door stops.
