No more Fender Precision?

The Affinity series is a bit better than the usual Squier, especially the Indonesians, but if it is market $130 you can get it down to $100 OTD. $130 actually screams "I will go home with you for $100 OTD".

Otherwise, of course P basses will be back but the economy sucks as everybody says and gone are the days when a P bass was a starter bass.

I started on a Cort P Bass. I miss it, I may call the guy I sold it to 20 years ago to ask him if he still have it :)

Now a started bass would be an SX J-bass or an Ibanez. So many neighborhood stores are Ibanez-Squier-Epiphone stores.

The demand for P basses is also a lot higher these days, which means that you're not likely to see a new series of P basses any time soon from Fender.

J basses have become bread and butter thanks to the fact they are versatile and lots of after market parts exist.

I don't need a P bass since I have stacked passive pups on my Jazz and I just put 0 on the bridge, 10 on the neck, 8 on the tone, the BDDI at 12 o'clock and, voila, P sound, great for punk rock.

Fender can stop making Precisions for a year or two so that existing inventory can thin out. The retail and used market is flooded with the P. But what I just wrote did not explain why the P is not on their website.

Here in Chicago, you don't see too many MIA Standard P's on Craigslist, and when they do appear, they usually sell quickly. I was watching for many weeks and every one that came up was butt-ugly or an hour away. Even the MIMs are frequently 90's models at late-model prices. I finally bought a new one.

Yeah, and I wonder whether Fender's web site managers had a betting pool on how soon the TB "panic posts" would hit after they took down the Am. Std. Precision pages. Knowing this crew, I'd say it couldn't have been more than a few minutes!
