No PA support-whaddaya use for cab(S)?

That's definitely all there is to it.

If there's no PA support for the bass, there isn't any for the drums, either.
Doesn't matter what size room, or how many people are in it. All you need is enough rig to keep up with the acoustic output of the drums.

(Actually, the same applies even with full PA support.)

Yup - I make sure I have enough rig to balance volumes with the drums and guitars on stage - anything above that gets taken care of by the PA...

I use a ~500w head into my Glasstone Lil G 212 cab for all of my gigs. I actually enjoy some of the no PA gigs because it gives me an excuse to cut it loose.

I used to use a 115/112 stack.

People these days get excited about watts, that means nothing. Back in 70's I played 50W handmade head on 75W 15" RCF cab (pretty much copy of Music Man's 1x15) every night for 900 people. Guitar player had 50W Marshall and some "disco" cab (God knows what was inside), drummer was not on PA, PA was 100W - some crappy amp on 2 EV cabs with horns - 2 mic inputs and that's it. So many times, the other bass players would come to gig and ask me to turn it down. Because people in the back are having seizures of my bass. We were playing ROCK!
It's just ridiculous these days how people get burned pockets for fancy 2x10" "bass" rig. Yeah right. That will move some air....

Even worse! I mean, yeah, I missed that. The black gig bag behind the headstock -- thought I saw a tuner there. I knew it was more than four.

Is that a Shuttle 9.0 atop the Glasstone? I've read about those cabs before... I'd be curious to hear what one could do with the notes on a low B, and with what kind of tone, at a volume that would keep up with a drummer.

Good eye. That's my Shuttle 9.0. Nice head. I have three class D heads that I use, a Kustom KXB500, Acoustic Image Clarus 4 series 2 and the Benz. I use my Markbass LMII at home.

The Glasstone Lil G does great with the low B's, that's one of the reasons I use it... and my basses have some great low B's. So far I've had the reserves to play louder than any drummer I work with. That's another reason why I love this cab.
