No-velcro pedalboards?

I've way exceeded my pedalboard real estate and need something bigger. So before I start shopping around is there any way of avoiding velcro? I hate the stuff and having just cleaned glue residue off the base of my Future Impact and Headrush would much rather find a better option...

I used to mount pedals by removing 2 of the 4 screws in the bottom plate and running longer screws up through the board into each pedal. Very secure.

Then I switched to using something like the Pedal-Links System shown below.

Now I have so few pedals that I no longer have a board.

Has anyone tried using painters tape on the bottom of your pedals then putting the velcro on the tape ? I remember seeing a youtube video where someone did that and it seemed to work well. The painters tape is not supposed to leave a residue ? I was thinking of trying that.
I'm just starting my first pedalboard and I'm not sure what board to get.

I recently bought a Way Huge pedal that was set up like that - it was awesome; pulling the pedal off my board didn't pull the velcro off the tape, nor the tape off the pedal. Just regular masking tape, I think it was. (Flipped the pedal already)

I don't mind velcro, I get my stuff from the sewing supplies shop and mine hold fine years after years. I usually hold onto my pedals for a long time so once I put it on the board, it ain't coming off. I did sell a lot of pedals though and never had problem cleaning a bit of residue glue off the pedals. The usual MXR sized pedal takes 2 patches of said velcro and it holds perfectly well.

Why the velcro hate?

Velcro is just too sticky and horrible, leaves residue, destroys labels, and doesn't hold pedals firmly in place unless you use acres of it. That said I'm back to using it in a minimal way for now. Hate it though.

That's cool. I guess I was lucky to find a good quality velcro that holds my pedals really firmly in place (I can pick up my board by holding pedals). I only need a few strips of it too.

You can also use Bicycle chain links.

Check out Aclam Guitar's Smart Track System - Invalid Link Removed

I had a lot of trouble with velcro when storing my pedalboards on their sides - glue would fail at some point and pedals would end up falling all around, weakening jacks and cables. Bought an Aclam and the pedals are rock solid on there while being easily loosened for pedal rearrangement.
