NOBD '69 Gibson EB3

While I have a number of 60s EB0s and 70s EB3s it been a while since I've had a 60s EB3. It's pretty slim pickens out there and pricey when you do. I wanted a 64-66 but this unbroken refinished '69 popped up and I was able to get it for a great price.
Almost all the parts are original, the vari tone dial is a replacement (I do have a original NOS in the parts box). The refin is a bit sloppy, I am going to redo it in the spring. Serial number has been gone over with a hand engraver during its refinish. The bass plays and sounds great, just what you would expect from a 60s EB3. Time to break out the Jim Lea riffs.

I hadn't played my '62 EB-3 in a while and was considering selling it, since I tend to play with such a bright tone, but picking it up again it's just too much damn fun!

EB3s have a unique tone and place in Rock history. A essential instrument in any bassists arsenal imho.

Love old Gibsons, I'm playing my EB4-L right now. I bought a '70 EB-3 this year, had a broken headstock but was repaired so long ago it's checked over the repair. Mine sounds great too and otherwise is in excellent condition.

If you're doing a Jim Lea thing then as well as an EB3 you need a violin

Nice looking bass! I recently picked up an early '70, at least by the serial number. Been modded with the DiMarzio pickup. It's got rounds on it now but I'm waiting for some Labella's to arrive in the mail.

Now there is a classic for you. Very nice. I had both a 60’s version and an early 70’s version (the ones with the plastic surround bound around the neck pickup. The 60’s version was a much better bass. I played the crap out of the 70’s version until there wasn’t much left. the 60’s I sold off to but better amplification.

Yes he is, utterly unknown in the U.S., Jim Lea is a very talented bassist/musician, and a master with an EB3.

Nice score! Looks sleek with the Schaller M4 tuners too. Bet they balance better than the elephant ears. Hit me up if you end up swapping out the bridge. My EB 1 could use the old one.
